Why weren't the Kanes pouring their considerable fortune into ensuring that Aaron Echolls was prosecuted to within an inch of his life?

But...I also feel like that's unlikely. If Woody has been molesting young boys for years, randomly molesting a teenage girl doesn't follow the pattern. Which I think is stronger when you consider how distant/disturbed the Goodmans' son is, but not Gia.
Some molesters are equal opportunity. Woody may have molested teen agers, rather than little, little boys. We just know about the boys, although I agree with you that it seems unlikely he's bothered Gia.
Even going to www.myspace.com gives me an error message. Maybe it's blocked at work or something, but that's weird because nothing else I know of is blocked.
MySpace gets a lot of bad publicity. There was just a story in yesterday's Boston Globe
[link] about how the state wants myspace to crack down on predators. It's an obvious one I'd block, if I were told to block stuff.

Yeah, but Aaron was trying to put the blame on Duncan, whom the Kanes tried so hard to protect before. Getting Aaron convicted would keep Duncan safe. Although he must be pretty safe in Mexico. Maybe the Kanes figure he's already wanted for kidnapping, so he's shamed the family name anyway, so he's not worth helping.

Well, private money can support private investigators and private counsel, right? I'll have to rely on the attorneys to set me right here, but I would think that they would have an interest in intervening in the case at the very least. Lilly, despite not being as important to them as Duncan, was still their daughter, and not even bothering to appear at the trial of the man accused of molesting and murdering your only daughter isn't exactly good PR (which, I think you'll agree, is something that the Kanes do care about).

I am not a California attorney, but most states do not permit private citizens to hire their own attorneys to prosecute -- or assist in the prosecution -- of criminal cases. Since the prosecution is in the name of "The People" (or "The State" or "The Commonwealth" etc) the government's attorney is the only one authorized to prosecute. That being said, it is not uncommon for there to be some communication between a prosecutor and the victim/family member/their attorney. Also, if the Kanes had hired a lawyer to sue Aaron Echols, that attorney and his/her investigators may have turned up some evidence that would benefit the prosecution. (Note -- the actual civil trial and most discovery -- such as the deposition of key witnesses and the defendant -- would likely be on hold until the criminal case was over with.)
Unrelated to that. I just remember something. Lucky couldn't have been the primary on the bus crash. He was in the V.A. hospital, the day of the bus crash. Perhaps he helped Beaver, but if Beaver was involved, I think he was really involved, not incidentally.
Yeah. I'm thinking Woody, upon hearing the "presents" thing, might have put a bomb on his own car to further divert suspicion about his involvement in the bus crash.
Either that or whoever crashed the bus also wants Woody dead. But I have no idea why they would take this long to bomb his car if that was the case.
