I skimmed my list and ... there are about 10 I don't recognise. There are 3 I own now (U Got The Look, Luka and Touch Me (I Want Your Body). And there are some I need to go buy (C'est La Vie, Shakedown, La Bamba, Living On A Prayer, Lean On Me, Lost In Emotion, and the Control Album).
Yet, my sister's trying to talk to me of Ashanti and Ciara, and I know nothing (OTOH, I really need Don't Cha by the Pussycat Dolls).
I was working as a dj in my graduating year, so I recognized all the songs, but I got down to about #37 before I found one I would want to listen to. The bottom half of the top 100 does much better than the top half.
Actually this
My Prerogative, Bobby Brown
song in 1989 [link] was the song I hated so much I stopped listening to pop music.
Yes, I was weird.
Did you know Hugh Laurie plays her dorky husband in the Walking on Broken Glass video?
Seriously? I thought that it was John Malkovich.
I'm looking at my list, which is the same as ita's list. Mostly I'm just arguing with where songs appear on the list. There are certainly some insta-channel changers (Kenny G, Chris de Burgh), and not a few that I own. I don't think I've ever heard of Expose or Jets before now, though, and they have multiple entries.
I am a music illiterate. I do OK with my ignorance.
I should mention that the Royals pounded Detroit last night.
But before that, they pounded the White Sox! To make sure that the AL pennant race would stay interesting. For all values of "interesting" being equal to "excruciating."
I don't know whether to laugh or cry about the fact that the Yankees' saving grace last night was a man who voluntarily calls himself "Bubba" and who makes about 0.001% of the Yankees' annual payroll.
God, I love My Prerogative so much. It's on my krav mix. Needless to say, people only remember the Prince/80s stuff on the list (which is maybe half an hour), and insist I mix it up more -- dudes, it's a 7 hour playlist. You're paying too much (flawed) attention to the music, and not enough to the krav.
Ok-- I only RECOGNIZED 15 songs out of the top 100 for my year here:
I graduated the same year and I could hear 75 of them in my head as I read down the list. And I wish I could get rid of most of those.
Now, I know and have nostalgia for ALL of the songs on Cindy's List, from my eigth grade year.Hmmm. I'm unusually fond of a lot of the songs from when I was in eigth and ninth grade, too (80/81).
I believe that in 1989-90, I got fed up with all music because of MC Hammer and other annoying songs and started only listening to musicals. Which I did for several years until I discovered Joni Mitchell. You did have a pretty crap year for music Sophia, so I wouldn't feel too out of it, if I were you. Feel above it.
I did love My Preogative, though.
