Simon got props? That is maybe not a birthday gift, but some kind of portent of the end of the world. Still cool to me. And speaking of class...if both those guys can be in the same room, being my "husband" and "boyfriend' and nobody jails, that's classy, too. I didn't watch...I have an allergy to award shows. I'll still go get my Emmy, though.

I was dorkily excited when they said Pelecanos's name on the Emmys. Like he's my friend or something. I mean, really.

I just found out last night that two close family friends (one is my god sister) are pregnant with twins! I mean, two different women. That'll be a lot of babies all of a sudden.

Jesse, wrod. I did the same thing when my friend sent me the nom. announcement.(I get a Quinn and Strange toaster for her, too. the hippest toaster ever.) Yeah...I felt all proud like my good taste was getting props, or like my real boyfriend just got a promotion. Pelecanos fans are pretty passionate. Amazon told me I am 85,000 times more likely than most customers to buy his latest.

Jesse & erika would have to split my Pelecanos toaster -- maybe I could get each of them a barbeque lighter or something.

Yeah, Rome is finally picking up the pace a bit. I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth continuing with, but the last 2 episodes have been much more entertaining (and I don't just mean James' Purefoy).

I have a pretty good record of people I actually know being named on awards shows, actually -- a friend of my parents has won a few Grammys, and a guy on the board of the place I used to work (so not my BFF, but someone I've spoken with) was the chairman of a theater company that won one of the big Tonys a couple of years ago. Fun!

I'm gonna make a fairly un-Buffista comment here, and that is that I occasionally get a kick out of "Raymond". It isn't cool or a proud moment, but worth a few chuckles when the news is really bad. However, I don't get the Emmy lovefest, because it is totally the least groundbreaking thing to ever exist, and I think the Emmys should always honor the best that television has. Of course, they often don't(pointedly sparing everyone the Joss Whedon, Kyle Secor, and Chris Bauer speech.) however giving an award for Raymond is like giving a culinary prize to somebody for making a peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich, instead of using grape. Wow. However will I keep up?

I feel very much as you do, erika. Scott and I enjoyed that show. We missed most of the last year, because there was a conflict with another show (I think 24, but can't remember). It was standard sitcom fare. I wish the characters had a bit more depth. I thought the performances were good, even when the writing and characterization were annoying and predictable. I don't think it ought to be award winning, but then again, let's take a long hard look at the shows I've loved. With the exception of Buffy, my pet shows seldom managed to stay on the air, never mind win awards.

I also like me some Raymond once in a while.

I like PBJ once in a while, but agree with Erika that "satisfying now and then" and "outstanding" are not the same thing.

Not that I can name any comedies that are outstanding, because I don't tend to watch comedies that don't star Jon Stewart, but I bet that some show, somewhere, is making PBJ with pumpernickel, and putting bananas in the middle, you know?

Now I am hungry.
