Well, I topped off the show with the quick hurricane reports. Doesn't look like I'll get anything much from Rita. Good thing because I don't have any way to shutter the new area yet.

I was surprised to see that we're up to the Rs. K was only like two weeks ago!
Yeah, this is crazy, right? We don't usually get this many named storms, do we? And what if there are more than 26? Do they start on the next year's names?
Possibly I could google instead of just asking here.

They should start doubling up letters. If storm 27 is called Aaron Aardvark, I want some sort of royalty.
Ha! But no. Thanks to google and NOAA:
Subject: B6) What happens if they run out of names on the list?
In the Atlantic and East Pacific, if they have run through the list they then used the Greek alphabet : Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta,... etc. . So if they ever have a Hurricane Omega you know it's been a busy year. In the Central and West Pacific they have a perpetual lists of names, so when one list is through they simply start on the next.
Since the name list has been started in the Atlantic in 1950 the furthest they have gone down the list has been Hurricane Tanya in 1995.
I just watched House. Oh, the end made me laugh. The rest of it was ... very like most of the last season. I was hoping for more jiggling with the formula, a la Three Stories (which I didn't think was as good as everyone did, but at least it was different t /tangling Voltaire )
Re: the Emmys
It's worth noting that Jon Stewart's speech concluded within the alloted time and did not need to be "played off."
Just got back from trying out the new Persian restaurant, which brought my streak of finding excellent Middle-Eastern places to a screeching halt. Each new foodstuff sampled was a unique and disappointing surprise. And the take-home box of tadig that I didn't have the heart to refuse started stinking up my car so badly I stopped at a gas station on the way home to dump it. How this place got rave reviews from the local food critic when my friend's wonderful Moroccan restaurant got savaged and given 1 1/2 stars is beyond me.
I rewatched Three Stories when it recently reran and I didn't love it as much as I did the first time.
Still Hugh Laurie is more entertaining to me than most on tv, so I am glad we have new episodes.
I find Hugh Laurie pretty entertaining -- it's how everyone responds to him that makes me roll my eyes so. I'm so not down with the indulge-the-cranky-genius thing.
