But yeah, presumably, Cheney started to say something along the lines of "He must be a friend of Patrick Leahy's" before what passes for a brain in that man kicked in and said NOOOOOOOO! DON'T SAY THAAAT!
I thought Cheney said something more along the lines of "He must have voted for Jonn...Never mind" or something like that. I could have sworn it was going to be a crack about John Kerry and the election he was starting, which is even MORE innappropriate, I think. I remember I did a double take when I read about it.
But I may easily misremember.

"For a long time, he was living at the Chateau Marmont and padding around like a ghost."
Oh, man. Someone need to go hug him already.
WOuldn't be too hard for an LAista. Chateau Marmont is right over on Sunset.

I always thought it had three syllables, actually.
I can see how it could be. Not if the family was from the south, but I've heard Chy-yuld as a pronunciation of child.

Quick, somebody go over to Sunset and give Hugh Laurie a hug! Tell him it's from me.

Cheney laughed it off and started to say something to the effect of "He must be a friend of.... Nevermind...."
Actually Cheney said, "He must be a friend of Jon St...Nevermind."

There are no one syllable words in the south. Moonwhatever is at least 3 syllables.

"He must be a friend of Jon St...Nevermind."
Even better. Though the impetus to shut up seems less imperative.

Oh, I don't know. JS would have had even more of a field day with it, if that's what he actually meant to say.
