The only food service type jobs I had were in college.
I worked as a dishwasher my first semester, first shift (7:30am) Saturday and Sunday morning. Oy.
People I Still Hate: The students who would fill a glass (not a bowl, not a saucer) with peanut butter and then stub their cigarettes out in it.
Later I moved to the drink line. There was an unfortunate incident when the hose on the ten gallon milk dispenser pulled out and suddenly there was a small tsunami of milk runnelling down the line.
Ten years, give or take, in the industry, but never fast food, thank god.
My very first job at 16 was at a McDonald's. It was brand new and clean and shiny. It really wasn't a bad job. I worked there for 6 months in between marching band seasons.
The summers I was 17 and 18, I worked as a cashier at Hardee's. I didn't eat french fries for a full year thereafter because I was so sick of the smell (which would permeate my hair and skin--ugh).
Somehow, during that very early "food or retail" stage of life, I ended up in retail.
