Also, this is one of the rare cases where I would be in favor of the Nat. Guard or some such going in and terminating with extreme prejudice.
Me, too.
Me, three, except the Louisiana Nat Guard is mostly in Iraq right now.
Fuck fuck fuck. I wish I lived closer - I almost want to hop a plane for Texas and just stay a week donating my time. I gave my little bit to the Red Cross, but it won't last long; if I were there, I could do... fuck if I even know. Fold blankets, pitch tents, make sandwiches. Something.
This guy is giving looters a bad name, I tell you what.
Could they get buses there? Could they get to the buses in the first place? Could they get drivers to the buses?
I'll bet Houston transports more than 10,000 students via bus every school day. I think something can be done.
We are the largest, most powerful, richest country in the world
Well, two out of three ain't bad. Though I don't know if the US is richest per capita, but I'm not sure of your units.
The thing about a sniper is, it could be just one crazy guy with the right location doing all this. A truly crazy and evil guy, but snipers have been messing with civilians on a regular basis for the last decade or so--and that's in calm circumstances. When the surroundings are insane, I can see a crazy person's crazy getting even more out of control.
Long article on the situation from MSMBC: [link]
“Hospitals are trying to evacuate,” said Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Cheri Ben-Iesan, spokesman at the city emergency operations center. “At every one of them, there are reports that as the helicopters come in people are shooting at them. There are people just taking potshots at police and at helicopters, telling them, “You better come get my family.”
Doesn't excuse the sheer bloodminded idiocy of shooting at people
coming to rescue hospitalized patients
for God's sake, but it looks like a lot of them are out of their minds from desperation.
Well, two out of three ain't bad.
::am now earwormed. am sure this was ita's intention::
Vonnie just posted what I was going to. It's desperation, a frantic attempt to get the helicopter/boat/truck for their own use. Well, and probably some malicious asses too.
