The first thing that came to mind was facility with arguing, and then my brain tried to talk me out of it. I made some excellent points against myself.
Natter .38 Special
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Hee.
Coolish thing: my firm is matching Red Cross donations for Katrina.
Wish mine was.
Ah, well, I got my receipt in case they decide to.
I'm depressed about the situation in NO. But there's plenty of blame to go around. Short-term: bad planning by the public agencies in that they didn't make any provisions to get people out of town who had no cars, all the people who could have left but chose not to because they figured it wasn't a big deal, the asshole looters (as opposed to those just trying to get food and water for their families). Long-term: oil production, wetlands loss, development of the ports, channelization of the Mississippi, reliance on oil leading to some climate change, budgetary reasons for not upgrading the levees...
What a horrifying mess. Human beings, individually, seem pretty fantastic. But occasionally I'm amazed we ever get anything done as a species.
One of my favorite things about myself is my wildly independent streak. It's given me some heartbreak, to be sure, but I like the fact that I can go off and do things and not think twice about it (even though I sometimes should).
I was wondering other things too, but having one relative who attended Tulane, I'm not sure that no-school-for-months will be noticed by many of the students.
I'm guessing no school for the semester. Which would delay graduations. Plus, students will be home for several months instead of a streetcar ride from the Quarter.
YOU KNOW WHAT??? Stop declining my meeting invites and telling me you can't make it. Here's what I want you to do:
- Make sure your online calendar reflects your availability. I don't
- Make a freaking suggestion! I'm not doing this to torture you. I looked at your schedules, and you've turned down the two open spots.
I'm especially fond of my nose.
Even though it doesn't make you squee when someone beeps it?
I like the way I see the universe. I (most times) like the way my brain works.
NBC will have a telethon for Hurricane relief, with Harry Connick Jr, Tim McGraw and others.
Also, Morgan Freeman is organizing a charity auction.
I got this info from CNN
