I think I'm more sensitive to it because I live on the Left Coast and grew up in Flyover-Jesusland. And I know many, many Flyover-Jesusland sorts would love to see all them Democommie queers in San Francisco swallowed up by the earth. It's just that I hear the hating on the Red States up here all the time. And my family, in the world capital of freakshow televangelism at the heart of the reddest of red states, has nothing against San Francisco or its fine, hard-working LGBT population.

I'm more sensitive to it myself for the same reasons, DH/dw, but I don't think we can class former friend as having a typical blue state reaction. We're typical blue-staters. He's an arse, and we already pretty much knew that. He's just taken it into the unpardonable range this time.

Bah. I am thinking of the children and whatnot. I've got no gripe against Southerners, flyover-ers, red-staters, or any other group as a whole. When I say here's your hat, what's your hurry?, I'm actually specifically wishing that that particular little group of cranky righties would hole itself up in a nice cul-de-sac somewhere or sail off to foreign climes, declare itself seceded, theocratize to its hearts' content, and leave the rest of us alone. Actual large-scale secession and civil war would obviously be a nightmare and a tragedy for everyone; the extra-bilious and extra-hateful packing up their bile and hate and moving to some Craxy Island where they can be miserable and righteous together and the rest of us can get on with, well, everything, not such a nightmare, IMO.
