The registration hasn't worked for years so we haven't had any new members.
Buffistas Building a Better Board ++
Do you have problems, concerns, or recommendations about the technical side of the Phoenix? Air them here. Compliments also welcome.
That will be fixed with the move (or whatever you call this), right? So possible influx of new people. But it doesn't seem likely that it would be a whole lot of new people who don't already know anyone.
Do we have our process for handling bad behavior outlined somewhere handy - that in thread call out, etc through to being blocked or whatever (how nice that we haven't needed it for long enough that my memory is this vague!) - not to have new people get pointed to it immediately but just to have available if it is needed
Wow the punctuation of that really got away from me. Sorry
I expect any new people would be friends of ours we invite because they belong. I expect bad behavior, should any occur, would be stomped quickly. The Site etiquette link covers it, but we aren't going to have any hesitation to point out that this is the safe corner of the internet!
I cannot even imagine a scenario that would bring in an influx of people. There is too much internet now.
Yeah, I'm imagining that new people would just be people existing members sucked in.
Though, y'know, it's the internet. One can never know when a board or a person will become a subject of interest to one of the internet's cesspools. And in these cases, rare as they might be, an option to quickly block an influx of people might come in handy.
Point.
I'm planning to start working on porting over the static content as-is as legacy content and then perhaps making some new pages with stuff that doesn't seem dated.
I created a repo for porting the legacy pages and started converting them to static pages. The repo is at [link] Anybody who is a member of the borg2 repo was added to this new repo.
Got this from DreamHost:
Hi, DreamHoster!
This is a followup to our previous email, "Outdated PHP Version Detected". During a scan of accounts for outdated or insecure software on your VPS we detected old, out-of-date PHP versions, including the following on your DreamHost account:
buffistas.com - PHP v: 56 - VPS: ps189917
buffistas.org - PHP v: 56 - VPS: ps189917
filk.buffistas.org - PHP v: 56 - VPS: ps189917
buffistas.net - PHP v: 56 - VPS: ps189917
To improve the overall security of your VPS, we are phasing out these older versions of PHP.
On August 18, 2020, we will be upgrading PHP 5.6, 7.0, and 7.1 to PHP 7.2 on your VPS.
If you would like to perform a PHP upgrade on your own before that date, go for it! If your site is a WordPress site, here is the guide we provided in the prior email: Upgrading your WordPress site to the latest PHP version
If your site does not work as expected after the upgrade, you can reverse the PHP version change in your account control panel! Outdated versions of PHP will still be available in your panel for a few more weeks until your VPS is fully upgraded. This will allow you some extra time to ensure your site's code is up-to-date and compatible with PHP 7.2.
You'll hear from us again once we've completed the upgrade with a separate email for each hosted site we upgrade for you. If there's anything else we can do for you, please reply directly back to this email.
Thanks!
