There would be some DNS and certificate work, but yes. The upgrade might not break everything, it just seems possible.
Buffistas Building a Better Board ++
Do you have problems, concerns, or recommendations about the technical side of the Phoenix? Air them here. Compliments also welcome.
Hm. I don't know if this is something we need to have a vote on or what, but given all the improvements you've made and how many issues our current site has, I wonder if it might be time.
Well, if dreamhost changes do break everything, it'll probably be time. It would be good for me to make a few improvements and bump up the versions on everything first. The most important improvement on the beta site is security.
For those of us who haven't been to the beta site, what will we need to do when we switch? Do we need to remember our current passwords?
I'd rather not wait and see if the upgrades break everything.
What do we all need to do to help makes things ready for the switch over? Do you need coding help/designing help?
Who has the skills (all I know it is not me)?
Just out of ignorant curiosity, what happens to this board after the switch? Do we abandon the URL, row away and watch her sink into the abyss? Or just move out and let the mice take over?
Pretty sure the URL stays the same. It's just a question of new code.
Things may not break. Dreamhost is upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04 to Ubuntu 18.04 which means updates to PHP and MySQL (the software that runs the site). The code is pretty old so it might break, but it also may be okay.
It should be the same URL. You'll be able to use your current login, but you'll be forced to reset your password (you don't have to change it, but the reset is still required). If you don't know your password.... I'm not sure. There is a 'forgot my password' feature, but that may not be an option during the reset. I might need to make than an option.
Okay, thanks. Enlightenment is good!
The last couple of times I tried to reset my password haven't worked. Fortunately my cookies remember.
