Trust my rage

My brother was asking me today about PHP and VB. Do we use either of those?

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

The board runs on php. (Note the ".php" in the page URLs.)

Oh - that seems pretty obvious now that you mention it. Well, now at least I have a bit more cred with my IT bro.

So if you had new messages in a thread in the tv folder, would you be able to see it from the message center? Or would you have to open the tv folder first to see that there are new messages there?

I've been thinking about the script kiddies, since they registered another batch of names. Can we set a condition to the registration algorithm that automatically rejects applications for registration that use a buffistas.org e-mail address? No legitimate new registrant would have one, and it's not like those of us that do have them lack for other addresses should we need to register a new name.

Yup. The message center and read new would work as they do now. If you want to experiment, try subscribing to one of the threads in the closed threads folder at the bottom of the home page. It would work the same way.

Thanks DX, your suggestion has really clarified it for me.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

DX, I started that, but never finished. I'll put it in this weekend, and clean up the kiddie regs.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Well, currently I use the main page and not the message center, although clearly the message center would do what I want to do with it. I mean, if I insisted, I could just subscribe to all threads and the message center would function just the same. So my discussion is probably moot.

But I don't really like compartmentalizing tv. Of course, I also don't like having so many threads it's necessary, but I definitely see the need. The main page is totally out of control, and it does make things more difficult to scan over and read.

I can see that organization is needed. In which case, I say, why don't we categorize everything? Maybe Media, Creativity, Community? If we threw music and movies in with the tv folder it wouldn't set off those bells so much?

I agree with that. Once you make a folder for TV, you probably want folders for other categories, even "general" or somesuch for Natter and Bitches, etc. Tidy up the home page, then people can pick and choose what they want on their message center.
