Yeah, except it looks like he never actually joined. It sounds more like they used him as a networking contact, and bestowed a steering committee position title upon him in their directory.
Yeah, but he did attend meetings. So the right wing argument now will be that he was on the steering committee, and attended many meetings - but he wasn't really involved.I didn't see that, unless that's what is meant by "taking part in activities".

As to picking a conservative -the Federalist society are lunatic conservatives. And with Bush that was pretty much a given too - but they are trying to pretend he is a conservative of the sane variety, which I doubt. He is probably personally sane; but thing is extremist is not a personality type it is a political position. Not foaming at the mouth, speaking in calm reasoned tones does not prevent someone from being an extremist if the positions they take are extreme.
The key for the Democrats is not to stop this - that would be great, but probably not possible. The key is to make the Republicans pay a political price rather than letting the guy sail through unscathed.
