Did they just get out of prison? Or maybe they were maroonrd on a desert island for eight years? Because then I can see where they might need a little pampering. Otherwise, I"m kind of baffled at what one has to do with the other.
Hmm. This ties into my theory about conservative policy-making, which is that they legislate for the world they want to live in in the belief that this will cause the world to live up to it.

I love the look of Nine West shoes, but they're too narrow on me now, and I always manage to kill them.
I'm the same way, Emily. I've only successfully gotten rid of shoes that I truly cannot squeeze onto my feet any more, or that have, in fact, grown mold. Strangely, falling apart does not necessarily qualify.
They're mostly too narrow on me too, but I can get away with the sandals. I don't expect to do too much walking in these anyway.
Someone remind me in an hour that I need to buy a new black strapless bra and a pair of black stockings on my way home tonight.

I love those shoes! Just may have to get me a pair.... Emily and I have the same issues--I still have shoes from high school that I can't throw out even though I wouldn't dream of wearing them again.

Er. Well, like the disapproval of sex education and free condoms -- where the rationale for them is "maybe they oughtn't have sex, but they're going to, so let's minimize the life-altering consequence," the argument against seems to be "they shouldn't have sex, end of story." Similarly, things like unemployment -- "Sometimes people end up in unfortunate positions and need help" versus "people should get another job." It sometimes seems (to me) as though many conservative policy-makers see any attempt to cope with a reality that doesn't fit best expectations as giving into that reality.
Not sure that makes sense. It's just something that's been percolating.

That's brilliant. No, I mean it. I think that is exactly what is going on in many conservative policy-makers' heads.
