So if all else fails, it looks like I should have a temporary position (with the almost certainty of going perm after Fall rush) at the school bookstore. The pay is...less than I could use at the moment (it seems to cover rent and my bills, but not food), but he actually bumped it up a quarter since I'd expressed interest in staying (which...still doesn't really cover food). Though now I would feel bad if I did end up not staying with him. He really liked me and knew I was someone he'd get along with. Dammit, I can't even find good menial labor.

Oh, not at all. The gig itself seems easy enough (help people find their textbooks and whatnot). And if I can't find anything else by Friday, I'm taking it, at least for the two or three weeks. I just know I'd feel bad if A) this KC job comes through very quickly or B) I look around and find a better-paying job to go "permanent" (*cough cough*) with. Actually, I won't really feel bad about A at all, cause dammit, I want a real job that gives me real money for doing real work.

So I was just sitting here, finishing reading some stuff and getting ready to head out to pick up a check, when my standoffish-in-daylight cat came over and laid herself over my hip and looked up at me adorably. Obviously, I'm trapped. I may have to call in to work if I can reach the phone from here. "I'm sorry, I can't come in today, my cat is being affectionate. I don't know when I'll be able to leave."
Aimee-- I agree that this woman is being hugely thoughtless, but I would advise just not going and sending polite apologies. Don't drive anyone there, either, as they will just try to get you to stay once you get there. The MoH needs a smackdown, but not from you, not if you want to spare the bride agita. After all, she has a lifetime of being RELATED to this harpy.
Also, while we're on the subject of my finances, I wanted to note that I should count myself lucky. My dad called last night, and he was under the impression that I was much broker than I actually am. He was going to put some money in my Bank of America account (his name's on it too, so it's easy) for me. I told him that wait, no, I had several thousand dollars and could survive for a few months on my own. I didn't need his money right now (he gave me some at the end of the family vacation, but he always does that, and I just consider it feeding me).
My parents don't seem to support me in this endeavor verbally, mentally, or emotionally, but they do financially, and I'm lucky for that.
The MoH is her best friend from childhood.
I want to drop out of her wedding and just move out of her building and just not be friends with her.
