Women of a certain age--say 45 plus--are firm believers in wearing a slip beneath a dress or skirt. It makes them feel like they've got it covered. But those in their teens, 20s and even 30s? I might as well have been asking if they were wearing a panty girdle. (Remember those?)

It's the End of an Era. As Baby Boomers and their moms move on to that great lingerie shop in the sky, the slip will become as rare as a lime plaid leisure suit.

As far as I can tell, young women are not quite going commando under those flowing cotton skirts so popular this summer. But they're only a step away. One woman told me she wears just a thong so if you can see through her skirt, "you just see butt" and not colored underpants or telltale panty lines. Her mother, standing nearby, declared loudly, "I don't want to hear this!"

I found a really pretty slip at Anthropologie a couple of weeks ago. I almost bought it because it was on Super Sale. But figured I'd never wear it. It just never, ever occurs to me to wear them. Maybe it should I guess. But it's so freaking hot in my office.

I own 2! one black, and one beige.

Now that I think about it, I think I have a slip. It came with a sheer dress, so I don't think about it much, and only wear it with that one dress. Which is once so far.
