Spike's Bitches 25 to Life
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
I think that makes me lean even more towards their privacy, since they're not even getting paid.
I see what you mean. Sports can bring in huge amounts of money, and tons of that goes to the officials, coaches, league expenses, etc., but there's the athletic scholarships, as well. Do they sweeten the pot for the players in any other way, do you know?
Still they're kids. And in a case like this, it is an ill kid, one way or another.
He did have a public meltdown. I wouldn't say he had a stand off with the police.
He was found one night running around in the street, doing push ups, and calling himself God and the Son of God. They arrested him and took him to the hospital.
Okay. I'd misremembered. Thanks for clarifying.
Do they sweeten the pot for the players in any other way, do you know?
Not legally, really. The student athletes I knew were way fucked if they wanted to keep any academic integrity. Can't take any classes later than 2 (basketball at Michigan) and will miss school days all through the season. Not to mention severely restricted time available for homework.
The player I'm thinking of was also pretty strapped for cash (no part time jobs allowed, even if they were possible), so he depended on team subsidies for eating out and clothing (making him a walking billboard). He'd been a 4.0 GPA high school student and was crushed by how sports affected his academics in university.
Do they sweeten the pot for the players in any other way, do you know?
They aren't supposed to, but there are scandals now and then. Jobs for players that aren't really jobs, just paychecks, that sort of thing.
Ugh. It's really exploitation, isn't it?
Wow, that really sucks for the honest ones, doesn't it?
Wow.
We don't have that stuff over here.
I'm very glad we don't have that stuff over here. Sounds bonkers.
((sj)) - wanna talk about it?
Thanks. Like I said it is mainly little things. First, I am still sore and hurty and I have no idea why because it is actually nice out again today. My apartment is a mess, and I need to figure out what to feed Dave and I tonight. Two lights, my bathroom light and my kitchen light, blew out this morning making cleaning more difficult. It is impossible for me to change them on my own, so I have to wait for Dave to get here. I have a few heavy bags of garbage that need to be thrown out and the idea of hauling them to my dumpster makes me want to cry. I suppose those could wait for Dave too, but I hate to say "Hi, hon. Please throw out the garbage and fix the lights." when he first walks in the door. I mean, this isn't even his place, and I should be able to do all this stuff, and I am just so aggravated with myself.
Yay talky Annabel!
Raquel, I think the thing with your husband is a little weird, but I think all he was trying to say was that he doesn't think of you as Raquel.
(My husband thinks I mispronounce my screenname. I tell him it's my screenname and I can mispronounce it if I want. )
((It's pronounced fnord!, by the way.))
There have been huge scandals all over the place. FSU had the Nike incident, where players were taken to Foot Locker after hours and were given what ever they wanted.
Another student was caught on camera getting a "discount" from a friend at a department store.
The back up quarterback to Rix was kicked off the team for stealing and forging checks and betting -- including on FSU games.
And everything is under the microscope. Rix was caught parkign in a handicapped spot and was practically crucified for it. You'd think no one had ever done anything like that. Or that maybe he'd beaten someone up for the spot.
