'Out Of Gas'
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

People think I'm crazy. I am. But it's fun.
I've gotten that reaction before too. The Dog Club (the beach dog people) were just about my only Brazilian friends that weren't connected to the consulate in some way. I learned tons about Brazilian culture from them and they helped me fit in. They also made me feel less lonely and far from home.
One morning when we had been there for just 4 months, I lost my key to our apartment. Joe was in school and I had no idea how to reach him. I had no cell phone yet and the only person I knew within walking distance was at work. I was wearing a sports bra and shorts and had just Toby with me (no wallet, no ID, etc). I managed to convey my problem to our door man. He offered me the money he had on him, but it was not nearly enough to take a cab to Joe's school and no one would have picked me up the way I was dressed with a wet sandy puppy. Thankfully, I ran into one of the women from the beach. She took me to her home and it so happened that her husband was having an english lesson that morning. The teacher explained to the couple why I was in tears. We left Toby at their house and the husband drove me to Joe's school. Thankfully, I found him and he went home with me and let me in.
That was a long story, but my point was that I really bonded with people over my/our dogs. That made the parties fun.
Stephanie, that sounds really nice. And the parties sound like lots of fun.

Stephanie, that's a lovely story.
My dad was staying here one night while I was in NOLA, and had the wrong key to get back into the building. This was at like two am - he had to go out to move my sister's car. (Don't ask.) A lady let him into the building with the comment "I know that dog." Good thing he took her with.
Gronk. I just woke up from a nap feeling like utter death. Now I'm running late to get together with people. Crapity.

I rarely cry, but I was in tears that day. It didn't help that we had an apartment but non of our furniture or other things had arrived yet. We had a bed/couch/table/4 chairs from the consulate but that was it. And a 13inch TV with all Brazilian channels. I hated it there for the first 4-5 months. Once I made a few friends and got settled in, I was much happier. Part of my problem was that until we had an apartment, Toby (who was 5 months old) had to stay on a tiny porch in 90 degree weather at the house of these people I had just met. I missed everything in my life at that point and it made me miss my puppy even more.
brenda's story is familiar to me. It always seems that I know the dogs before I know their owners.
Anne -- your hair looks fantastic! The style really suits you.
Anne it looks wonderful! I'm so jealous that you can wear that style.
Anne, that's a FANTASTIC cut on you! Very swanky -- like a lounge singer (NOT a lounge lizard -- big difference). It's so sleek and dramatic -- I love it!
