I get into it at work with my woah!conservative coworker. Other than views on politics, we get along really well.
This describes my relationship with one of my best friends, who I've known since kindergarten. We give each other enormous grief, but it never gets nasty, other than mock nasty.
I suspect some of his views, however, are ones that allow him to get a rise out the largest number of people - as he is a conservative in Massachusetts, I can sometimes sympathize since, even as a dyed-in-wool liberal, I sometimes want to take the piss out of some of the more self-important lefties.

Political conversation here needs some kind of Kelvinish scale, or something.
I know "conservative" Massachusetts Republicans who would be considered left of center (at least on several issues) in many places.
