When you're hurriedly glancing through the paper before rushing off to work in the morning and see an article titled "An Evening With Tim" and shout out loud "OMG, I can't believe Tim's in Malaysia! Where is this taking place?" before you realise that the article is actually speaking of some singer from New Zealand and am incredibly depressed throughout the day.
I have had this same problem, only on the opposite side of the world. I think that the odds of our Tim showing up in Juneau are just about as remote, though not impossible.
So it could not be Buffy who had the last fight.

The narrator's info could easily have been muddled after 500 years. It might actually be Buffy's choice to activate all those potentials that depleted the Slayer line for centuries, while hundreds of active Slayers at once would serve quite handily to wipe malevolent demonkind off the face of the earth.

In Fray, it shows a blond and says she was the last called slayer and after her fight all demons and magic disappeared.
Problem there is, the Slayer line ran through Faith. At least before they called all the other slayers. It ran through Faith the momment she was called.
So it could not be Buffy who had the last fight.

But also, we do not really know the slayer line ran through Faith, or
only
through Faith. That's the assumption the characters make, and Joss made meta-comments early on (but I think they were always along the line of "The line runs through Faith now, unless I get a cool idea and change my mind").
We have information from season 7 (that freaky multi-eyed monster that Anya and Giles went to see), which indicates that evil and good were out of balance (which is what allowed The First Evil to act up), and that it was Buffy's fault. His narration could be unreliable, or reliable. We do know something was up, and it was seemingly because of Buffy. So, it could mean anything, including that the line ran through both of them.
It's safest to assume Faith was called when Kendra was killed, but we don't know that for sure. We do know Buffy had only died once before either Faith or Kendra was called, but Buffy had also been to Hell (in Anne) which from what we know about the Heaven(s?) and Hell(s?) of the verse, probably means she was in another dimension, and could possibly have been enough to call a new slayer.
Of the first so-called potential slayers we see at the beginning of season 7, the second one at the beginning of Beneath You, almost seems like she could be an active slayer, rather than a potential slayer.
We also have the First Evil. When did it act up? It acted up months after Angel was returned from Acathla-Hell, and then it acted up approximately a year after Buffy returned from I-Think-I-Was-in-Heaven. Since Angel was its focus in
Amends,
looking back, it would seem that it acted up in response to Angel's return. But, Spike was one of The First Evil's focal points at first in season 7, so maybe the FE just prefers to use one of its own (vampires, that is, typically evil creatures) when it is active.
A slayer could have been activated when Buffy died in season 6, and that could have caused it to act up. And in fact, when it acted up in season 3, that was after Buffy had been to and returned from Hell, so it could have been having both her and Faith active at the same time which caused it to act up.
Now true, we never heard about another slayer after Buffy's resurrection, but we (and the Sunnydale characters) never heard about either Faith or Kendra, until they took it on their own to come to Sunnydale and introduce themselves. Clearly, their Watchers were told about Buffy, but Giles and Buffy were never told about them, and both women were slayers
before
Giles was fired by the Council the first time.
In other words? Dealer's choice. They never carved the slayer line canon in stone, and Joss Josses himself all the time.

But do they? That was an issue a lot of people at TWoP had during season 6: the audience was told in interviews that the line went through Faith, but I don't think that the characters ever discuss it (although I certainly may have forgotten or missed something).
