A year and a half ago, I could have eviscerated him with my thoughts. Now I can barely hurt his feelings. Things used to be so much simpler.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

You people post too much.

I was Mrs. Jefferson in this! Love it to bits and often wander around singing "Homicide! Homicide!"

I just love radio theater. When I went to grad school, I didn't bring a tv with me. Grad school was in Syracuse, the armpit of New York (sorry to any Syracusians), but the place did have one outstanding feature: a radio station that played old radio theater. I listened to The Shadow, Fibber McGee and Molly, and other great shows whose names escape me right now. It was an great substitute for tv.

Dude! My sister's (in the sense that she's in it, not that she wrote it or anything) radio serial thingie may tour! It's a 30's style thing about a girl reporter who has to save the world- all flashgordony sci-fi and Nazis. Lemme dig up a link... [link] There. And that's her in the picture!

Ninth Ward - figures.

Hey!

The Maxx and AF were on in '95, so Liquid Television must have been right before that.

They have full collections of Liquid Television on Ebay. As soon as I get the money, I think I'm going to spring for one for me and Mr. H.

"Just Say Julie." I mean, Winger videos were bad enough, but that show was, like, "Drop the bomb! Exterminate them all!" bad.

I liked that show! I can't remember why now, but I'm fairly sure I adored that Julie Brown. She was on Quantum Leap the other day playing a "hooker with a heart of gold" type stripper.

"Don' be e-scared"

I'm more curious about the fast forward through time Jewish montage in "Pink Flamingos" than I am in the censoring of Sharon's story.

"Don' be e-scared"

Hell, they made us censor the Sharon stuff here. And they didn't even air it. Bastahds!

I feel that Allyson mocks my insight and brilliance just because it had no correspondence to reality. She's mean.

Gimme a clue. I've got...roughly everything.
If you have Judy Henske, you're done. Pop-ish or blues is probably safe. Usually lyrics mean more to me than the actual music, which is why I'm clueless -- there's a lot of stuff where I feel like, "Yeah, that's really original and sounds wonderful, but... it doesn't mean anything to me." Not always, but often. I've got tons of Robyn Hitchcock, if that gives you some sense.

Oh, but I am a complete sucker for strings. There are crap songs I like because there are violins in there.

I just read something that mentioned the 69s and I meant to tell Allyson about it. Back before I knew how mean she was. It might have been something by Joe Lansdale.

Oh yeah:

I wish I wasn't just a terrible procrastinating hack who closes in on deadlines in 12 hour stretches
But don't you ever come up with things where you're like, "I never would have thought of that if I'd done this on time!"? Or is that just my own special rationalization for doing things at the last minute?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Are there actually people who have a week to do something, finish it by day three, and then just hang out drinking fresca and moving commas and stuff?

I think Joyce Carol Oates writes like that. (a) She's very disciplined; (b) she's a total Fresca slut.

Trudy, did you see I was talking about your cousin Henry upthread?

Kristen - Aug 20, 2005 10:22:24 pm PDT #3026 of 10001

I finished my most recent spec a full two weeks ahead of the deadline.

Of course, that was only because I didn't know until after I'd mailed it that they'd extended the deadline by two weeks.

Swouncing

There's an old saying, you make three movies. The one you write, the one you shoot and the one you edit.

Which ones is closer to the one's in your head, if my question makes any sort of sense?

I'm more curious about the fast forward through time Jewish montage in "Pink Flamingos" than I am in the censoring of Sharon's story.

I'll ask, if you like. Now I wonder what they'll do with the confession-in-the-bathroom scene (which I loved, by the way) this coming Monday.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

That looks like a fun show, Heather. And your sister is gorgeous. But I want to hear the radio play, and it looks like it is a play play. And I would guess it's unlikely to tour anywhere near me. Bummer.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

She's mean.

You know, when Strega calls you mean, you've truly arrived.

I feel like I should have a tiara and sash and a loaded gun.
