I'm not evil again. Why does everyone think that?

[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.

Guy #1: Man, there are so many hipsters around. I hate hipsters! Guy #2: You're at the wrong place. That's like going to Vegas only to say "I hate titties!" --The Warsaw, Williamsburg (OINY)

It's...relaxing.

Exactly. It tickles some of those buttons without the angst and drama and investment both when it was good and when it was really, really bad, as XF.

how do [shout-outs] make a show more obscure?

P-C, not saying I agree with the conclusion she came to. But I can kind of see how she got there. I think the point is supposed to be that the energy spent in creating all those shout-outs would be "better" served by making the shows more accessible.

The only thing I kind of agree with is the First Impressions Effect in terms of Rachel/Rebecca. I was intrigued by Rebecca but I didn't like her or identify with her pretty much right off the bat the way I did with Buffy, Veronica and Jaye. (The BF says his problem with Wonderfalls was that Jaye was too unlikeable but I liked her a lot - but then I am frequently a snarky bitch as well.) And Rachel really bugged at first. Web was the one that hooked me on the Inside.

Not to be too OT but I love VM to death and would have a million of its babies. Last fall Lost and VM were neck and neck in terms of my investment, and over the season Lost ended up in the "barely watchable" category while VM became app't tv.

Signed, still wishing for a VM buffistas thread

Refrigerated Dove chocolates and ginger-ale:

Note: I do like the Inside quite a bit though and plan to keep watching - I'm just not entirely there yet. In one way I am like the author of the piece - I trust Tim to bring it, so I'm in it for the long haul.

PS GF rawked. Revive GF!

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

To be fair, you'd have to be a hardcore fan to get the shoutouts. Most people watching the show have no idea who I am, so that's not so big, you sort of had to know the Wolfram thing was coming to notice it, the cat named Angel, well, you have to be a fan of Angel and know that Tim worked on Angel to even get it.

Harmony = Melody was a huge reach.

Friends don't let friends dismiss Veronica Mars unjustly.

I bow to the superior wisdom of Polter-Cow and other VM posters in this thread, and to the quality recapping of Couch Baron at TWoP.

Watched the first 3 Veronica Mars episodes tonight (using voodoo magic, not the Internets, I swear) and I'm 100% on-board. That pilot was a great introduction to a complicatedly interesting premise, and the others kept the quality coming. Even having read the recaps of these episodes (I had to catch up for ep 11 tomorrow in reruns) and thus knowing the plot twists in advance, I enjoyed them immensely.

Rah rah! VM is great! I'm an idiot for not listening to the forty-seven thousand people who told me that earlier!

That'll teach me to half-watch half of an episode from halfway through the season.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Whee!

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

The blue gloves amused me.

Mostly because we did a photo shoot with paramedics (pseudomedics? I don't know, they looked real enough) at work and one of the photos they wanted retouched was wanting bluer gloves.

So I smiled privately at the hands of blue. Even if it wasn't intentional.

I think they are nice for the fans and transparent to anyone else. No harm done.

Holy crap, it's 1:46 AM here? VM was even more engrossing than I thought.

Aaaaand I'm starting ep 4 rather than go to bed.

I may have to seize the cat.

Of course, your beagle may vary.

My family's beagle is adorable but SO VIOLENT. It's sad, I think she's cuter when she's sick. But I've always liked children better when they're sleeping, and felt that way about my cat, too. Maybe that's why he ran away.

The BF says his problem with Wonderfalls was that Jaye was too unlikeable but I liked her a lot - but then I am frequently a snarky bitch as well.

This was true of my boyf and myself as well. He thought Jaye was mean, I thought she was funny. I saw the inner marshmallow, I think, and he didn't.

Most people watching the show have no idea who I am

I have to say, I found that shout-out VERY exciting and cool.

Aaaand... episode 5. Boy, this voodoo magic sure is handy for catching up on good TV shows.

Who the hell is it that Kristen Bell reminds me of? I can't figure it out.

edited to spell her name right
