The Minearverse 4: Support Group for Clumsy People
[NAFDA] "There will be an occasional happy, so that it might be crushed under the boot of the writer." From Zorro to Angel (including Wonderfalls and The Inside), this is where Buffistas come to anoint themselves in the bloodbath.
I suppose it might help if I'd get them done more than 20 minutes before deadline.
To put it in perspective, I'm still running behind on my 5-minute recap for Angel episode 5:13, so I'd say 20 minutes before deadline is doing pretty good.
But Kristen and I didn't campaign to buy DVDs. We were all done campaigning by January.
There were people (11th Hour's guerilla marketing posters leap to mind) that were giving fans touchstones for organizing and fan promotion when it came time for the DVD release. I don't mean to say, "Oh, F:IA and the Variety Ad are entirely responsible for the movie!" (In fact, when I mention it, I tend to say, "Yes, we tried to save Firefly. Tried and failed. Gave it a really good go, though.") But I wonder if there wasn't some residual effect from the positivity and near-professionalism (I mean, it was professionally done, it just wasn't, you know, paid for. It was all volunteer.) surrounding the ad that made the fans feel empowered enough to work at the DVD promotion.
I think you can't really sort out all of the causes when you get into the not-directly-business part of it. (By which I mean, yes, we can say, "High DVD sales made the movie a much more attractive prospect," but I don't know that we can say, "And there were high DVD sales because x." Without asking every person who purchased a boxed set of the show why they did so, and how they became aware of it. That sounds like far too much work to me.)
People there really seem to resent that he has the following that he does and can't wait for Serenity to fail.
There are always those people. I think that also there are people frustrated with fans who believe the man is infallible (dude, he's so fallible. He wrote "Family.").
the guy hates a particular webcomic artist for no reason other than he's popular and his girlfriend hates Joss for the exact same reason
I have a friend who likes Joss just fine, but her boyfriend is unimpressed by him because he thinks people give Joss too much credit for taking revolutionary feminist action (ie, sticking a blonde in an alley kicking butt rather than being the victim - Joss was not the first person ever to do this, apparently, and this guy thinks people say he is - I'm not sure, I try and avoid discussions of the subject).
...I feel bad that this whole campaign thing has hijacked Tim's thread, so -
1. I miss The Inside.
2. I can't wait for it to come to DVD, I wish they'd release it the minute after the last one they're airing airs (if they're airing any).
3. Then I will have a Minear party with Wonderfalls & The Inside.
4. I hope Kristen's vacation is restful.
Fans send us to spa and beautiful flowers. We feel the love and call it quits.
Why do I suspect you did all of that just for the spa and flowers?
I’m kidding.
Thanks, Allyson.
Someone at work told me your BSG recaps are sooo good.
And BSG is…?
(Yeah, I know, I live in a cave.)
“INXScessive”? Me likee.
dude, he's so fallible. He wrote "Family."
What's not to love about Tara getting slugged? Sure, there was the rest of the episode...
"Family" makes me cry.
I ♥ Family so there.

You can sit over here with me, David, and we'll get our W/T schmoop on.
Hey, I've got nothing against W/T. My issues with that episode actually have very little to do with them (if you can imagine such a thing, as the ep centered entirely on them). Anyway. My point was, Joss is capable of erring (I'm sure we can all find sometime we didn't like something for which he was responsible, even those of us who love "Family").
And BSG is…?
Battlestar Galactica. In this case, the new one.
