It's good to have cargo. Makes us a target for every other scavenger out there, though, but sometimes that's fun too.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

but without that tremendous show of fan support the DVDs and subsequent movie(s) would have been highly unlikely. Sure there were other factors.

But that's just not true at all, Wolfram. It really isn't. I swear. That's what I keep saying and people keep denying. The Variety ad came out days before the cancellation. And when Gail called Joss to cancel, she said he would have DVDs and she wouldn't stop him from shopping the show to another network. And that had everything to do with her relationship to Joss, and not anything to do with postcards.

But how many times just Joss have to say it never would have happened without the incredible fan support?

"i'd like to thank all the little people, god and ayn rand."

It's a nice thing for him to say, but completely untrue.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Thanks, Kristen. Nice ad, very gracious.

Not listening to your craxy talk.

Okay, but will you explain why you refuse to believe it?

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I can see how the fan support made a difference. Fans=$$ to the studios. Most fans follow actors, which is why Julia Roberts or George Clooney or whoever gets movie and production deals. Organized, vocal support of a writer or a director is MUCH rarer and I am sure made Joss a more attractive person to do business with. Universal didn't want to be in business with him because they like his talent--they wanted to be in business with him because it was good for their pocketbook, and it's good for their pocketbook because he brings fans to the theater.

Per ita's post - D'oh, I own two of them.

But did they all come out before the Firefly DVDs?

Honestly, none of us know all the factors that went into the DVD release and the movie. You certainly know more than I do. But, can you honestly say that without the visible fan support there'd be a Serenity movie coming out in Sept? Whether it's a tangible connection like someone tallying up the signatures on a petition, or something less tangible like giving Joss and/or the FF actors the resolve and dedication to stick with the Big Damn Movie idea and see it through, I refuse to believe that visible fan support played no role at all in what has developed. It may not have been the biggest factor. But without it, no freakin' way.

And in my mind, visible fan support = Allyson, Kristen, Kiba and anyone I'm forgetting. If I'm wrong, then, just tough. So there.

ETA: Also, what Robin said.

If I'm reading the release dates right, yes, by a couple of months.
