I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Fascinating, wasn't it? I mean, those didn't look like tears of joy. Relief, yes, joy, no. If you'd not known the result, the shots of Roddick and Federer in their chairs wouldn't have helped you much.

Yeah, that's exactly right. It was kind of unsettling to see.

That's interesting that he was loud when he was younger. DH suspected that someone told him to show more emotion when he won, that he's getting tagged with the Sampras more machine than man label.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I don't quite see him as Sampras-like, because Pete looked so frozen the whole time. Roger looks more -- like he's not working. Like he's out for a quiet walk. Serene, almost.

DH says he plays like a Swede. Whatever that means. He reminds me of those bits in kung fu movies where the master kicks someone's ass (or, more accurately, lets someone kick his own ass through trying to attack the master) without breaking a sweat. I don't think he's like Sampras, but I figure sportswriters used to talking abot Sampras are ready to employ the same sort of descriptions for Federer. But that's just me unfairly maligning sportswriters, probably.

Oh, good, another tropical storm. This is the earliest there have been 4 named storms in the Atlantic. Yay.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I like Gehry and don't find his buildings ugly--some of them are quite beautiful. They are definite statements, but sometimes they add a lot of energy to a skyline. The Disney Concert Hall [link] in downtown LA is practically the only building there built since the 20s which is not boring and faceless.

Rumor is one person in our group has already been notified they are being laid off, so it looks like today is the day (unless mgmt is sick and wrong and dragging out the notifications over the week which would be INSANE.)

I guess that means I'll know by the end of the day?

Eeps.

Noncontract coworkers won't find out until August.

yikes, sara. good vibes to you. Hope it's done today... it sucks whatever way it's done, and it's probably better to be done quickly, and to know one way or another. Here's strength to you to get through today!

sarameg - I didn't get to post with you at all lately, but all sorts of vibes for may-what-is-best-for-you-happens are crossing the ocean your way already.

Heh. I'm not really stressed about it anymore. I've managed to finally box that up for use in case a) I get laid off and or b) I don't and jeez, I gotta make up my own mind?

It is a little freaky, in any case.
