"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

She kind of does a play by play, instead of summarizing the current status, huh?

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Health-ma and painfree-ma to your father, Matt.

And general well wishing for you and yours, Gandalfe. Good luck.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Health-ma to Matt's dad, and Life-ma for Gandalfe and family.

It looks like it's foggy outside, but I know at mid-80 degrees that is not fog. Also, why the hell is Salem 5 degrees warmer than Boston? That's just not right.

Thrive to spite them

I need the Hivemind.

My G'ma has dementia that's getting to be pretty bad. She has been living alone w/my Aunt visiting every day and getting her meds ready, etc and there's a woman who comes 3 x week to take her to lunch, get her hair done, etc. But G'ma's short term memory is really starting to go, and my Aunt and Mom are worried and stressed out.

So they are starting to look into assisted living/nursing home. But they are stressed out about how to get her in one. G'ma's memory is so bad that one minute she's saying that going to assisted living would be good and 5 mins later she's saying she'd rather die than be put in "one of those places."

Mom is stressed out about how to get her admitted if she won't consent or is unable to because of her memory. Her big fear is that they will have to get G'ma declared incomptent and that will be this big thing that will tramuatized G'ma.

Does anyone know what goes on or a good site that clearly states what to do? G'ma lives in Oklahoma.

Mom is going up there at the end of June and I'd like to be able to give her some resources before she goes.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Matt, health~ma to your dad.

Gandalfe, all the parenting~ma in the world to you.

askye, that's a really rough situation and I unfortunately have no words of advice.

What is even happening?

askye, maybe they could enlist the support of her doctor. Also? Maybe her doctor should review her medications, to make sure there isn't something going on med-wise, that's worsening the situation with her memory.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Good advice, Cindy. Overmedication is a huge problem with the elderly.

Other than that - you know, some of those assisted living places are pretty nice. Hell, I'm kind of looking forward to it. I'd recommend checking out a couple that you think she'd like and taking her there to see it. She might see that it's not as bad as she thinks, and maybe it would stick with her a little better than a conversation.
