Oh, I remember that '84 Olympic Games summer. My grandmother took us to the Coliseum to see some of the early rounds of the diving competition. Good times.

We had recently gotten a tiny black and white tv that plugged into the cigarette lighter, and we brought that with us so we could see the competitions while we were camping. Somehow, it always seems like I must have been in LA for those Games, but I wasn't at all.

I can't even.

they manage to personalize those for the locale enough to make it less obviously a franchise

But it is the same robo-playlist at all/many of the Jack stations. It is funny (and painful) to be doing a long distance drive, pick up a new station, and hear exactly the same set over again. Still, I really dislike the dumb call-in, audience participation games/advertising/pimpage that most stations overdo, and the Jack stations are clear of that stuff, for the most part.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Favorite summer dessert? Key Lime pie. Though there's a lot to be said for Jello (black cherry preferred, though it's hard to go wrong) with whipped cream.

Beach or pool? Nice sandy beach. Warm sunny day. If it isn't heaven, it'll do 'til the real thing comes along.

Predictions on the overplayed song of summer '05? I also don't listen to much U.S. radio. Though I've started hearing a new Mariah Carey song that is going to get very old very fast.

What was your worst family summer vacation? North woods. Cabin/tent/camper by a lake. And a week's worth of rain. Happened several times, though the worst was probably the year that the first sunny day was the day we drove home.

Your best? Probably St. Louis. Six Flags amusement park. A car museum. Great stuff for a 14YO.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

No DJs, and I think they're going with "anything rock-ish since the 70s is fair game". Their tag line is "Playing what we want". It's obviously automated, and they have a few too many ID blurbs between songs, but they manage to personalize those for the locale enough to make it less obviously a franchise.

Dear God, we're trapped in that episode of WKRP in Cincinnati.

Ooh, Jello with whipped cream. That is good. Though I always get it at cafeterias and never make it at home.

See I don't consider pie of any sort to be a strictly summer dessert. I can remember having great strawberry pie and Key Lime pie all year round, or so it seemed.

a new Mariah Carey song that is going to get very old very fast.

Unfortunately, all her songs seem to fit into this category nowadays. I miss "Vision of Love" Mariah. That was some quality pop.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

What? CBS-FM is gone? What will happen to Cousin Brucie?

(Note that I haven't regularly listened to this NYC station in like 20 years... but CB was on it back then. It's like hearing that your great-uncle has been fired.)

He was fired. From what I've read, he's gotten a bunch of offers from other stations, though.

Key Lime Pie seems seasonal to me. At least, there are certainly times of year when restaurants that have served it to me in the past don't have it. I'm willing to believe that season is summer.

I don't think I've ever had strawberry pie. When I'm making strawberries into dessert, it's probably gonna be shortcake. Mmmm, shortcake.

I read in AM New York today that he signed a contract with Sirius.
