Actually, you'd need to have seen the Clone Wars animated series so as not to feel utterly lost at the very beginning, with "Who's army is that? Who's that General? Why is there a war on?" If you just accept that there's a war on and that any droid with a gun is probably a bad guy, you're cool.

The cat Sammie is in Cat-Heaven as there is a bird perched on the exterior window sill on one of the living room windows.
