That feeling when you accidentally read 250,000 words of fanfic by Thanfiction, AKA Andy Blake, FKA Amy Player, FKA Victoria Bitter.
And it was in that irritating place between "scratches an itch I have" and "I disagree with choices and characterizations so much that I will stop reading."
Woops, Dana. I read DAYD a few years back, and yeah, I got more & more uncomfortable with it as it went on. He's not untalented, but I really don't need to see so much of his ID.

Exactly. It was decent, but then themes kept creeping out that were making me unhappy, and then the final battle was just gruesome.
Then I got to the end, and the author's note said "Andrew", and I thought, "Of course it was written by a guy." Which is not fair, but the gender politics were ooky, and the whole thing was so militarized.
And then this morning, the penny dropped.
What story were you reading so I can avoid like the plague?
On a different note, I've been, because Bitchin' Party, re-reading a LOT of fake dating and therefore need recs if you've got 'em.
There's a pretend relationship tag on PolyRecs, if that helps.
It was "Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness". I really want a proper "Neville Longbottom, leader of the motherfucking resistance" story, so I gave it a shot. I didn't regret it until that last section, though. Much more gruesome than in Rowling's original.
There's some cool stuff there, but it should be recognized as an AU because the characterizations are just way off, and very Marty Stu.
I wrote a thing. [link]
I don't know WHY I wrote a thing, but I wrote a thing.
I lie. I know why I wrote a thing: I wrote a thing so I could avoid writing the other things.
Dude. There are only 35 stories in that fandom.
GO SMALL OR GO HOME!
Maybe it's a small fandom because there's no need for fix-it fic or alternate pairings?

Quite possibly! It did have a surprisingly active Yuletide this past year, but surprisingly active in this case meant three additional stories, two of which were written for me.
It's one of those sources where it seems like, for a lot of us, there's not an immediate rush to go read or write something, but we're generally pretty pleased if we stumble across it.
There are only 17 for the actual canon pairing. I think the rest are all the weird crossover ones. Even some of the 17 are weird crossover ones.
(Technically, I have written in smaller fandoms. But Divas Las Vegas isn't something anyone but me actually saw a need to write or read, and that was just a couple hundred words of ridiculous vs. a couple thousand words of fluff.)
