How did your brain even learn human speech? I'm just so curious.

Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?

This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

If there's a tag for A/B, I expect that,at some point, even if it's not the end game, that there will be some sort of romantic content between A and B. And generally, if it's the first tag, I expect that to be the end game.

And I have read many a fic that has absolutely no end game for anyone, and I don't know if it's because the author is using nefarious marketing techniques, or they truly intended it to be an A/B fic and by the end of writing it was an A&B fic and forgot to adjust the tags.

I was avoiding a fic because a tag was "longest PWP evar!" and finally gave in after seeing it keep popping up in peoples bookmarks, only to find it was a plot-heavy plot-hole-apology fic for the movie-verse.

Sometimes I think people don't know what they mean when tagging.

Wrod. Some people's self-assessment of kinkiness barely pings my radar anymore. I blame you people.

Honestly, when a fic is labelled NC-17/E, I don't actually need a tag for every position used in the fic. Although, when the kink tags surpass the ten mark and the word count is 1,000, it's a PWP skipper.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It's weird. For some reason, the first page of the D/C filter for SPN fics is worse summaries than usual. Submitting your story twice while spelling Supernatural wrong in the title (both times) and using the tag "Attempt at humor"? Not as eye-rolly as this (complete) summary:

This is a Supernatural Fanfic, based off of the TV series. In this thrilling fanfiction, it follows the usual story line and ideas of the original show with a few very, very minor changes. It focuses on the forming bond and relationship between Castiel and Dean, slowly forming into the big known couples name, Destiel. My story is a slow pace moving story, meaning it isn't all "I love you. I love you too. -make'slove-" right off the bat, kind of story; there is a plot and development to the story in order to keep it ongoing and not as a short 3 page fanfic. I would appreciate it if anyone who reads could leave a comment, or bookmark my story if they enjoyed it. I will consistently be trying to update it as soon as I can around my busy work schedule.

FYI, Cas feels a pulsating need to kiss Dean in the first paragraph or so. It is probably worse than the songfic using MLP songs. I'll never know for sure because a) I am now blind and b) I'm not clicking on the songfic.

We are capable of such blindness, aren't we? Then again--not all audiences are the same.

But what does Cas taste like?

But what does Cas taste like?

You've just reminded me that I made a mental note to update three new Castiellian flavours, and then forgot which stories I meant..

(Why the fuck would you make someone taste like cinnamon and watermelon? What does that add to anything, ever, except confusion?)

Back to summaries--I think someone should poll readers (maybe just readers who aren't writers--I don't know which is more useful) on what they think makes them click on a story. And what makes them not click. Which tags win us over or drive us away, no matter what. What ways of discussing topics turn us on or off?

There might be enough commonality there that you could at least think--okay, I'm writing PWP, those readers tend to want to know who's pitching/catching or bottom/topping or sub/Domming, as well as these high-value kinks, but curtain-fics are best described with less detail, yadda yadda.

I'd just want to know for knowing's sake.

I read a creepily unedited fic yesterday that slipped into first person for two sentences in the middle of the porn. Yoinks! Way to burst bubbles.

Even when he's not an angel he tends to be the odd-tasting one in the relationship. Dean tastes of pine and motor oil. Mmm mmm good.
