Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?

This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Domenika Marzione has started posting a sequel to Freezer Burn.

So far, so good, but that's hardly unexpected.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

You know, I wish I liked Freezer Burn more than I did. There's something about her narrative technique that didn't work for me, although I used to really like her storytelling. A bit too much telling, maybe? Narration rather than events, maybe?

Plus too much food porn: I just can't buy Steve Rogers being quite that fascinated by nouveau American cuisine.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I just got dick-nannied at dA, which is supremely irritating because a picture of people fucking like mine can't be fixed by censoring the erect penis. Here's some of what what dA's rules prohibit:

• Masturbation
Hands should not come into contact with genitalia in a manner which is clearly a display of fondling or masturbation.

• Sexual Intercourse.
Subjects should not be depicted in a clear display of sexual intercourse. This includes depictions of sexual penetration, oral to genital contact, genital to anal contact, and oral to anal contact without exception. Some depictions of same sex genital to genital contact and some depictions of oral to breast contact might qualify under this guideline as adjudicated by staff but not all will be considered an automatic violation of policy.

• Vaginal, Penile or Anal Penetration
This includes depictions of any object being inserted into the vagina, penis or anus.

• Sexual body fluids (actual or simulated).
There should be no depiction of semen or vaginal lubricants.

• Erections.
There should be no use of imagery depicting an erect penis, however there may be exceptions granted to illustrations created for legitimate medical or educational purposes.

• Vaginal or Anal Spreading
Female subjects should not be depicted with their labia spread or parted in any manner by hand or manipulated open or parted by any other artificial means or object. Neither sex should show the anus manually opened in a similar fashion.

• Adult oriented (sexual) toys.
"Adult toys" consisting of dildos, strap-ons, vibrators, and similar items which are crafted to realistically represent a phallus or "receptive" vagina are not allowed. Items and devices which do not depict a male or female organ in a realistic fashion will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for acceptability in a submission.

Going around telling people to pixellate pictures like mine is pearl-clutching and USELESS. If that's not a clear display of sexual intercourse, I can go back life drawing class. I just pasted the bulk of that text over most of their bodies and left the entry so that me snapping at the useless nannies is preserved in public.

Either stay out of the game, or do it properly. I had a whole five minutes thinking I'd fixed shit, but I'd fixed shit. So to speak.

However, I am trying to work out how much sex I can put into a picture and get around those rules...looks like you can use penetrative objects that don't look like dicks in fake anuses, but extensive breast manipulation (with hand) is probably more my speed.

Anyway--I have nothing against dA's rules. Their playground, their boundaries. Pissy people misstating them, on the other hand--they bother me.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Hey--an actor is running a transformative work competition with the theme of their character:

Can I just say? I LOVE OSRIC CHAU.

[link]

Criteria: Create and be creative about it
Theme: Kevin Tran
Rules: Post your entries or a link to them in the comments section below. Three winners in total, Top two entries with the most likes and an entry voted on by a council of my friends.
Prize: I'll be taking the 3 winners out for food (of the winners' choice) before or after the Supernatural convention in Dallas in mid-late September 2013.

Good luck to all and make things that never could have been without your efforts!

What is not adorable there?

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Randomly clicked Traitor's Throne to read from the Cap_Ironman reversebang, and dang, was that good.

Non-linear, which means I have to reread it, just like The Twice Told Tale. Has me gasping for more. The writing, tone, dialogue, world-building, was simply gorgeous. Unlike the last fic I commented on, this one has so much implied inbetween the unspoken. Even if you don't know what it was that happened during the unfilled gaps, there is a feeling of great depths that have a weight of lost legend. And the art it's based on is impressive.

I'm now off to explore more of Cluegirl.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Had a genderswap dream that might inspire some really screwed up bandom. That messed up musical couple way back when: Bobbi Brown and her husband Willie Houston.

I don't understand why there are plagiarism scandals in the fanfic world, and then things like this [link] have 39 favourites and people blandly commenting. Do they not have, you know, eyes or memory or anything? Look at their gallery! They're not really even hiding.

Is it because it's canon being copied, maybe, and there's the whole grey area about defining transformative?

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

In fanfic or fanart?

Fanfic because people want attention. I'd assume the same for fanart but on my phone it's harder to see the big differences in the two images you linked.

Had to step away from a fic for a moment because they were dissing Army food. College cafeterias and MREs, sure, but DiFacs and Spoons are one of the Army's primary morale boosters, and you don't get that with shitty food.

my question isn't why fake it--rather it is why accept it?

She ran a filter over the photo. If you look at her gallery there are some clearly pencil-drawn pictures, and she's not very good. I don't think there are that many people who can be original and photorealistic in digital art, and seem to have forgotten what perspective is with a pencil.

And if there are many, she's not one of them, because she's posting photos!
