Loki tries to conquer Discworld; things do not go well. [link]
Very amusing.
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.
I just ran across a Captain America fic that started off with pre-serum Steve and Bucky standing in front of a TV store watching broadcasts on the screens. I didn't have the stomach to read further and see if they had a microwave at home or opted to stop and eat at a Wendy's instead.
Consuela that was great. The author describes this as "crack" fiction - a term I'm familiar with but only from context. This story actually captured the voice of Prachett I thought, and had the same kind of plot. Does that mean the story was not in fact crack, or that the whole Discworld series is crack?
I would call that kind of crossover crack -- or monkey crack. It's the very premise that's ludicrous: complete absurdity, without anything in the way of real drama or serious character development.
"Crack" fic is generally fic with an absurd premise, played for laughs, or at least not for being taken seriously.
Isn't that much of the Discworld series? It developed its own consistent logic over time. But the early ones never let logic get in the way of a good pun or a good punchline.
Well, yeah, Discworld is often played for laughs. And most Discworld crossovers are, as well.
OK, found a hilarious Avengers fic, re: various peoples problems with clothes
sam_storyteller is wonderful
Ah, man--if only I had a reason to set a fic in 80s Britain and have someone flip up some article on top of their TV feed and research the news, or something.
And then everyone would yell NO INTERNET!!! And then I could yell TELETEXT!!!
And we'd laugh, and laugh, and be best friends. It would be great.
It's not as cool as when Amy writes a story related to my fic
Aw! Her story was sweet -- Dean's voice, at least in the beginning, was really dead on.
Thanks Connie! Not only was that story hilarious, it led me to this one that I hadn't read yet: [link]
