And Kaylee, what the hell's goin' on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose?

Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?

This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The future of the English language doesn't care about us.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

My little sister, the polyglot, thinks that apostrophes are a waste of time.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Even apart from obviously not being a Sci-Fi fan, that's just crazy talk.

Always Anti-fascist!

I hate that U R thing so very much...especially when I'm in an auction with somebody that does it. Because if I'm handing you money, it's business and, argh! Dude, buy a consonant, okay? I deserve that much respect.(/Mafia don)

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Oh, dear. Someone on my friends list suggested the following exercise:

1) Sally forth to Fanfiction.net. Gird thy loins. Plunge in.
2) Choose a fandom you know nothing about aside from the name, which has at least ten fics listed.
3) Read only the first page of story summaries
4) Using what you have learned from these summaries, describe what this fandom is about.

Up with the sun

That looks like fun, Anne. From the Spyro the Dragon page (video game, 175 fics), I learn that:

1. The main characters are Spyro, Hunter and Red.
2. Spyro, Hunter and Red may all be actual fire-breathing dragons.
3. It's not a shippy fandom. Like, hardly at all. Maybe because they're dragons?
4. People in the fandom really didn't like the fourth game.
5. The plot of the game seems to be about ... I can't really guess. It seems to be something like, Spyro and co. need to protect their lands against an angry mob and a villainous princess to bring peace and prosperity. Something like that. I don't know, I don't play video games.

I need to find something shippier and try again.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Anyone want to give me a few more Harry Potter cliches? I thought I might try my hand at dashing off a couple more of these dialogue-only fics.

...anyone?

...Bueller?

So where's the good Veronica Mars fic hiding?

My first foray into the big wide world in search of fic without any guide or rec has brought me to a site where the summaries include the following:

duncan and veronica get intamite

Turns out I would like Logan a lot better if he had a younger sister. And if Duncan loved her

veronica and duncan r married abd logan decides to come bac from traveling

...call me unadventurous, but I just can't face trawling through the crap. Nothing at Poly Recs. Nothing at Crack Van. I'm going to go look at Bright Shiny Objects, but I'm getting a trifle distressed.

HELP ME!!!

If I only had a brain...

Jennifer-Oksana's "Quadrille" is excellent angst. [link]

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

BSO has some, definitely. Also, I will mention to the universe again that Veronica Mars/SG-1 crossover fic must be written. Veronica and Jack are made for each other, in a completely gen and extremely sarcastic way.
