Aw, really quite very sweet Castiel-takes-a-day-off-and-tries-being-human fic. I wanted to hug it and squeeze it and call it George.
(Er, yeah, Dean/Castiel, eventually.)
This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.

Hey, I need vid recs. Non-slashy, gen-type vid recs. It looks like there is going to be a promotional video/trailer for the GCS book, and I want to show my publicity person what really good vids look like. I'm planning on sending him the link to the "Vogue" 300 vid, but I don't know what other ones to send him.
Jilli, you could do a lot worse than to start with some of the ones on this page: [link]
Every one is really excellent work, and the one slash vid on the page is given a really solid bit of grounding/context about why it's slash and what that choice is doing, rather than just letting the reaction be "ha-ha! they put guys together! ha!"
Jilli, google up Laura Shapiro's webpage. Some of her stuff is slashy, but generally not the more recent stuff. And there are few vidders who edit better than Laura does.
Thank you!
For those of you who enjoy giving recs, or maybe just like taking polls: phaballa on lj is running a poll on The Best Fic Ever. You can only give one title, and it can be in any fandom (she'd also appreciate an explanation of why you picked that particular story). She's looking for "...the best piece of fanfiction you have ever read. This is not necessarily your FAVORITE, although I suppose it could be. I want you to consider: which fanfic was so well-done that you were just stunned by its brilliance? Which one made you feel something deeper than the usual? Which one made you think or question your assumptions? Which one made you forget you were reading fanfic at all?" Currently it's a blind poll (I think that's the expression -- anyway, we can't see the responses right now) but she's going to post a list of all the stories nominated (but I don't think she's going to list who nominated what story).
Well, that was fun.
I ended up listing Kodiakke Max's In the Company of Ghosts. Because Farscape needs some love, and it really is an astonishingly brilliant story.
Even the idea of trying to choose makes me twitchy.
Normally requests like that would make me twitchy about choosing but one story came immediately to mind, so I went and listed it. It's not one I casually rec ever but it's That Story.

I wonder if it's the story I'm thinking of.
