Lorne: Snakes? Uh-huh. And they came out of your what? Okay. Okay, well, did they get up there themselves or is this part of a, you know, a thing? No, I'm not judging...Do we fight snakes? Angel: Only if they're giant. Or demons. Or giant demons. Are they giant demon snakes? Lorne: Well, unless this guy's 30 feet tall, I'm thinking they're of the garden variety.

Fan Fiction II: Great story! Where's the sequel?

This thread is for fanfic recs, links, and discussion, but not for actual posting of fanfic.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Totally random fic rec request:

Matilda has been gorging herself on Miyazaki movies for the past few weeks, and I'm getting more and more entranced with Spirited Away: the richness of the characters, the vividness of the world of the bathhouse, the glimpses of other worlds, other stories (the shadow people on the train, the two figures waiting patiently at one crossing as the train zips past, the shadow girl playing hopscotch at one of the stations. Imagining what sort of young woman Chihiro grows up to be, wondering if she and Haku ever meet again and if she recognizes him, wondering if Lin ever gets her train ticket away from the bathhouse and where she goes to).

It's just such an incredibly rich, detailed world, and I want more. So, to prevent myself from blundering into some badfic horror, I'm asking all y'all, (a) does Spirited Away fic even exist, (b) is any of it as shimmeringly good as the movie, and (c) if the answer to (b) is yes, who's written the good stuff and where does it live?

Thanks!

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Huh. There's none at the Yuletide archive, so there goes my first idea.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

I know there is some out there, JZ, but for the life of me can't recall where. I reckon Yuletide would be a good place to go looking, though.

eta (x-posted with Dana): Nope, I stand corrected - just checked it out and there's none. But I'm sure I've read some at some point - not brilliant, but not bad. Damn. I'll have a look around.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

A friend of mine has a couple of SA fics here.

"Hand of Sorrow" fits the subject of one of your wonderings fairly well.

So, in case you're interested and not on LJ, I have committed SPN fic:

here and here.

Largely All About Castiel, because I think he's fab. But the next one's about Ruby, once I've finished it.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

OOH, I'd missed the first one somehow. LOVE

You guys - who coined this phrase: "Do not meddle in the affairs of slashers, for you are cute and go well with other men?"

I'm wanting to say Shrift, or possibly Connie? Or has it just been a fannish phrase since the dawn of time, and it was just that I heard it first from one of them and thought it was an original shaft of wit?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I'm thinking Connie.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I think it derives from "Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup."

No, I don't know where that one comes from either.
