Actually, I used a very similar structure on a story I posted last summer; of course, it was gen, for a remix challenge, and received nothing near that kind of rapturous reception. ::wry grin::

Oh, I really enjoyed Written By The Victors enormously. But that's true of a hell of a lot of fanfic, and I don't mind other people NOT loving it in the slightest, and I can certainly see the point about thinking "...hang on, what?" about the ending. (Actually, I'd assumed that was just me failing to understand the story, despite having read it once and heard it several times [it's a very good podfic]. Relieved to hear that it ISN'T just me being blonde after all. Good good.) You make excellent points about the flaws in the POV, though.
