I'm really pleased to see that I raved about a story (Bright Moon, Who Goes Farther Still, a Watership Down story) that turned out to be written by a friend of mine. She'd even told me months ago she was writing that fandom and I'd forgotten. Hah!
So many great stories this year.
The Treat that MADE Yuletide for me? Written by my giftee! This has cracked us both up. (Writing for friends is a special kind of hell. Fun, but more stress.)
Should I reveal what Jilli wrote? She was going to reveal it. Mely liked it!
Absolutely reveal, Plei. Jilli would want you to... Or, at least, said she would.
Oh, I'm going to post a link to mine.
See????
Um, I am kinda happy about all of the reveals.
Jilli wrote for The Umbrella Academy, a fandom I'll read in the trade. [link]
I wrote really absurdly fluffy DA: [link]
That Watership Down story is amazing! The more fic I read the more I am surprised at how well the writers can weave their stories into the fabric of the original works. Dang bunnies made me cry again.
Nutty, you wrote Njal's Saga fanfiction? Wait, someone requested Njal's Saga fanfiction? Oh, if only I were not at work. Is there murder, and also revenge, and revenge for the revenge?
Well, it's only 900 words long. Somebody does get his arm lopped off, though.
Fanfic is for the win!
Meanwhile, in tangentially fanfic-related news, I'm reading Cassandra Clare's book
City of Bones
at the minute. It's really very good (which just goes to show that there really was never any need to be copying out passages of Pamela Dean, but whatever, blah blah blah, old news). Anyway, yes, this bit made me choke on my bottled water:
Kneeling down, she tugged [the bag] out from under the bed by its olive-green strap. It was covered with buttons, most of which Simon had given her. GAMERS DO IT BETTER. OTAKU WENCH. STILL NOT KING.
Made my head go boom.
