"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

I momentarily thought Sam Winchester lept into 5th year harry!

Whereas I thought it was Sam Carter for a moment there.

shalott wrote a Harry Potter/Supernatural crossover. (Incest, sigh.)

It's quite good though; I sort of fast-forwarded through the sexy bits. It's not - I don't actually have a big squick over sibling incest, per se. Which I may blame on reading The Hotel New Hampshire at an impressionable age, or whatever, I don't know. And I certainly grok the 'holy cow, look at the hotness', and have read some SPN wincest. But I find the Winchesters' relationship works perfectly well sans sexual tension, just like the Bristows' relationship does.

...I'm not expressing myself well. I guess I mean that - I can play at the slash with SPN happily enough, but I don't really believe it - it tends to feel pastede on yay! Um.

Is this making sense? There's fic I thoroughly enjoy but don't believe for a minute, and there's fic that rings perfectly true. And I can enjoy the hell out of both, but it's the latter that I'm more engaged by.

Anyway, the Winchesters-at-Hogwarts falls into the former category. It was surprisingly good fun, but the UST and the shaggage felt to me (because of my own take on the Winchesters) quite startlingly needless. Not awful or offensive, but just "....huh? ...huh. Oh-kaaay."

I guess there must have been people who felt that way about Clex.

tries to stretch brain to encompass this reading of the text. brain breaks.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

I can play at the slash with SPN happily enough, but I don't really believe it - it tends to feel pastede on yay!

Fay is me in this regard. It's one of those slash pairings that I Just Don't Get. Oddly enough, I don't think it has anything to do with the incest factor, because lord knows I've yelled "just kiss him already!" often enough at Nathan and Peter on Heroes.

How do other people react when they hit across a pairing that they don't get? If it's only incidental to the story (e.g., the SPN/HP story) and it comes highly recommended, I can skip and skim. If I run across such a pairing without warning (het or slash, makes no difference), it can hit me as if I'd run across an actual squick, not something that would simply make me think "meh" if I saw the pairing in the header.

vanguard of the socialist Hollywood liberal homosexualist agenda

I think the Winchester relationship is incestuous enough without the sexual component, and a good author can illustrate that without teh sexing.

As for SPN/HP, there's some AU out there that's wee!Winchesters, as actual students at Hogwarts. Brill.

Art Crawl!!!

Fay - I felt exactly the same way about that story.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I guess there must have been people who felt that way about Clex.

Oh, surely not. That's crazy talk.

"You can't put a price on the joy of not giving a shit." -Zenkitty

Sometimes it is difficult to have perspective when you are faceplanted in your beautiful cake and making gleeful "nom nom nom!" noises to anyone who comes in earshot.

It is equally difficult when everyone around you is happily producing cake with banana cream filling and offering you a slice, and everyone looks at you funny when you say, "No thank you." "But it's cake!" "Um, I'm not hungry?" "But -- CAKE." "I'm... on a diet?" "But you had three slices of chocolate cake last weekend!" "Er, that's why I'm on a diet?" "But isn't that your fifth cookie?" "Banana's not my favorite." "But my banana cake is the BEST. You'll like it, I know!" "I JUST DON'T LIKE BANANA CREAM FILLING, OKAY. GOD."

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Heee! Awesome. I want to marry shrift's analogy. Or is it metaphor?

I'm also fond of mely's strawberry analogy for those instances when fandom makes you dislike something you previously enjoyed or was neutral about:

It's like when somebody really loves strawberries, and you're all, "Strawberries are okay. They're not my favorite thing in the world, but I like them okay. I eat them sometimes," and the person is all "STRAWBERRIES STRAWBERRIES STRAWBERRIES STRAWBERRIES" until finally you want to scream, "ENOUGH WITH YOUR FUCKING STRAWBERRIES! I WILL ERADICATE STRAWBERRIES FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH! NO MORE FUCKING STRAWBERRIES!"

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Ha! Yeah.

I mean, I'll read Wincest cake and enjoy it on rare occasions. I will. But it has to be baked in such a specific way and with such specific additional ingredients that, well, it's easier for me to just say that nope, this is not my beautiful cake and sneak a few bites here and there.

I'm not sure how I react when I accidentally hit a pairing I Just Don't Get. It's been a while since I put myself in the position to hit one, discounting unwarned for Wincest, which makes the back button go click click click. Honestly, the last I Don't Get It pairing in one of my other fandoms was kinda canon (Angel/Cordy), so I may have been conditioned to grit my teeth and bear it until we got to the Wesley bits.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

I'm learning quickly where my boundaries are in fic. Granted, I've only been reading one fandom, but I'm finding out that All Slash is Not Created Equal. I don't want to read Neville/Remus. Just .. ew.

And for that matter, not all het pairings are good either. Harry/Hermione bugs me. Well, mostly. There was this one...anyway.
