"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

It's a spin-off of the Daily Show, basically, with Stephen Colbert (Comedy Central site: [link] ). Like the Daily Show, except, er, always in serious-pompous-news-anchor character. The source of "truthiness".

omg this is hysterical. The Word! The Threat-Down! Hee!

I guess since "Stephen Colbert" is a fictional persona, this doesn't count as RPF...

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

...er, is this a crossover?

Sorry about that Fay. Yep, it's a crossover with the "Colbert Report," which is absolutely hysterical. This thing had me in stitches.

I guess since "Stephen Colbert" is a fictional persona, this doesn't count as RPF...

I quite agree.

Always Anti-fascist!

New fandom peeve: People that post stuff without beta, then say if it's fucked up, blame insomnia, NyQuil, Vicodin, whatever-the fuck. Put the pipe down, and step back for a sec, okay? Or pretend you think every stroke of your keyboard is genius. Half-assed shit makes me nuts.

Eh, I've done that, when I've either been writing in AIM or writing straight into the LJ update window.

I like to give fair warning for shit I'm just spewing out off the top of my head, you know? Yet half the thrill for that sort of thing is just getting it out there in fifteen minutes or something.

Back when I still wrote a lot, as opposed to every once in a blue moon when water's running backwards and the day has no R in it, I'd write an instapost things I was working on, get feedback, and then polish it up later for lists.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Hey--if you had to show one fanvid to someone who says there's no way to view Jack & Daniel as Jack/Daniel (because, really, Daniel's a surrogate for the son he lost--whatEV), which would you pick?

Daniel's a surrogate for the son he lost????

!!!!

Not that I have a problem with people favouring the platonic view of their friendship, not in the slightest, but, but... Daniel's a surrogate for the son he lost????

I mean, whatchamacallim, Skar, yes, fine, Charlie-surrogate. Also the wee bald boy who was sort of Ikea-made by aliens just in order to talk to Jack, and who was all 'can my name be Charlie? Can I be your son?' Yes. Fine. But Jack-Daniel just isn't a father-son vibe. Good grief. Yes, Jack may be a bit older, but he very clearly doesn't see himself as an Old Bloke! He's all Action Bloke!

Right, having had my unsubstantiated gut reaction, I'd be fascinated to hear her (his?) case for a father-son sublimation. I guess that it's only like slashing, in its own WTF kind of way. (Apart from the OMG CrazyHead, you're wronger than Captain Wrong part of it, obviously.)

Also would be delighted to be pointed at some nice fanvids...

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I don't know about fanvids, but wouldn't a viewing of "Abyss" run counter to the father/child interpretation?

Hmm. There's Destina & Carol S.'s stuff; between them they have a number of Jack/Daniel vids. I can't think of any offhand that would necessarily convince someone who wasn't already reading the dynamic that way.

I tend to think that if you are resistant to a pairing, a vid emphasizing that pairing isn't going to convince you--it'll just piss you off that the maker of the vid so misinterprets the text.

ETA: although one of my favorite vids about the Jack-Daniel relationship---not a slashy one--is Barkley's "Lucky One". It's on her website, linked off her LJ. I like that a lot, because it's messy and complex and even resentful.
