'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

My brother was telling me about one of the kids in his Boy Scout troop who evidently didn't know that hash browns were made out of potatos.

("What did he think they were made of?" he said, and of course I immediately answered "Hash?")

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The ones I've tasted seemed to have been made of coagulated water.

Oh, you have not had proper hash browns, sounds like. Those pod things are so not.

edited to try to not sound all snooty.

I just thought I'd share that.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Congratulations to the Betsy! Bigger and better and less-stressful things.

didn't know that hash browns were made out of potatos.

I think there was a period of childhood during which this was true of me too. Sometimes, you do better not to know what is in fast food; why should hash browns be any different?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

egg and olive sandwiches

Never heard of these, but the local alternative to Italian Beef sandwiches on Lenten Fridays is egg and pepper sandwiches (also available at the Buona Beef restaurants and most other IB places). They aren't too bad.

As for good hamburgers in Chicago, brenda, I find that most of the sports bars and grills have decent quality burgers. I'm still wanting to splurge on a damn good steakhouse sometime this summer, though, either Gibson's or Gene and Georgetti's. I'm craving some top-quality cowflesh.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

I have yet to find the best burger in Chicago

Surprisingly, Carson's Ribs has really good burgers. As does Portillo's.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

As does Portillo's.

This is the one mentioned by the guy whose link I followed to the burger blog.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I am determined to go to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse now that I'm living probably less than a mile from one.
