I think there was a period of childhood during which this was true of me too. Sometimes, you do better not to know what is in fast food; why should hash browns be any different?

egg and olive sandwiches
Never heard of these, but the local alternative to Italian Beef sandwiches on Lenten Fridays is egg and pepper sandwiches (also available at the Buona Beef restaurants and most other IB places). They aren't too bad.
As for good hamburgers in Chicago, brenda, I find that most of the sports bars and grills have decent quality burgers. I'm still wanting to splurge on a damn good steakhouse sometime this summer, though, either Gibson's or Gene and Georgetti's. I'm craving some top-quality cowflesh.

Surprisingly, Carson's Ribs has really good burgers. As does Portillo's.
As does Portillo's.

I am determined to go to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse now that I'm living probably less than a mile from one.
