How is the Los Altos OHoP random, Kat?
I'm going to make BLT salad for dinner tonight. AIWillBeFG.
Though it occurs to me I forgot to buy tomatoes. Time to make a little phone call to DH, who's out buying my Mother's Day present. I'm not bad for answering honestly when he asked what I wanted, am I? My answer was "a bookstore gift card and an afternoon to myself to go spend it." I think he'd rather buy me an actual book (or other physical object), but there's no present I like more than a bookstore gift card--money to spend on books, whatever books strike your fancy that day, and no guilt, because you have to spend it all there!
Yup, really going to Egypt. Must say hello to Fay.
Also, bacon is the one meat I miss with all my heart. God, just the smell.

Susan, that's how my mom is about presents too—gift certificates give her the fun of shopping as well as that of getting new stuff, plus she doesn't have to feel any guilt about spending money on something frivolous that strikes her fancy. I hesitate to give them to other relatives and friends because it can seem like a no-thought present, but in Mom's case I know that there's not anything solid I could give her that would be as enjoyable.
Gift certificates are my favorite gift, because nobody who buys stuff for me can figure out what I like. Or, they find out I like a thing, and then buy me an overwhelming lot of every possible variation of the thing, until I'm sick of it. Gift certificates solve everyone's problem.
Timelies all!
Spent the day at Johns Hopkins, It was G's 15th year reunion. In the course of the day I saw my first lacrosse game. It's a lot more rough than I expected. I didn't realize players were allowed to hit each other with sticks as part of the game...
