What are some pop culture/film/tv/literary examples of marriage being a physical, spiritual, or career death to a man?
Ethan Frome?
Re VM: msbelle, I had the exact same reservation you had re. some of the
Veronica/Logan scenes. How can Veronica be so forgiving of Logan? And when did Logan turn into an understanding schmoopy perfect boyfriend? I think the lovey-dovey-ness was exaggerated to make the video reveal more shocking, but it sat uneasily with me--possibly the only thing marring this powerhouse episode.
As for Lilly's killer. I have no freaking clue. My fave suspect thus far has been
Lianne, but I was hurting so much for Veronica last night that I kind of want her to have a satisfying, clean avenging of Lilly's death without the kind of soul-crushing despair it'd bring if Lianne was culpable. And I love Aaron--well, not "love" per se, but I think Harry Hamlin's portrayal of the character and the massive fucked-up relationship he has with Logan is one of the most interesting things on the show. I'd be sorry to lose that.
But of all the adults, I think
Celeste is the best bet, which strike me as a bit too obvious way to go, because she's been such a villain all along.
ita!! AHHH! but those things always feel like misdirects to me.
It is screamworthy, isn't it? For some reason, although I was agitated about the idea that
Logan was the rapist and/or drugger of VM,
I think I'd not be traumatised if
he was the killer.
I'd be disappointed, because
less Dohring is BAD, and less Dohring-macking is sad too.
I don't know who I really want to be it, though.
I feel kind of light-headed.
Is it because they're books you bought for your courses, and you won't be needing them anymore? 'Cause that's understandable.
Thanks everyone! Madame Bovary, Star Wars, Married with Children are great examples. Ethan Frome doesn't quite work. While it fits many stereotypes, it doesn't fit the one I'm tracing (technically, his wife didn't hurt him...his affair did).
And I can't believe I completely forgot this one: Angel loses his soul when he sleeps with Buffy.
Must watch last night's TDS, and remember I don't RPF.
LOVE both of them.
Oh, and Samson. He hooks up with a chick, and the bitch cuts his hair.
Well fuckity, I'm migrating build systems and suddenly the build server will no longer boot. I thinks I will be working late tonight.
WRT to the
Logan - Veronica kissage. 1st time was extremely hot (motel balcony), out by the Echolls pool post Dylan smack down was so so, secret making out session in bathroom was hot, at Logan's house getting caught by Dad was way too cutsie not at all hot, last night stuff was all ok.
I am not a fan of
cutsie cheek and head kissing Logan.
Unsurprisingly, I love
protector and take charge Logan.
What I really learned last night is that fictional boys named Logan are always "F" and should never be anything more.
ChiKat, would War of the Roses work for your purposes? The wife has a parallel downfall, but she's definitely the cause of the husband's ruin.
Romeo and Juliet might be a way to go. Of course both die in the end, but earlier on it has Romeo becoming a wanted man for killing his love's cousin...
