Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Hmm. Technically I'm not due for my annual physical until next month, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to go in early.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Anyone have any suggestions?

Well, there's this name I saw on a subscription list that I always thought came via Groucho: Edmund Q. Whipsnore, III.

Or someone's tagline on TT that I always loved: Fancy-pants Joey McPoodlespank (or skank, I memfault which)

And of course: Buffista Monkeypants!

I hope the therapy appointment goes well.

I am back from therapy. I treated myself to a fancy coffee drink and a chocolate crossaint, because I decided I deserved it. I just took my first does of the new meds.

What is even happening?

Susan, is WW still using the points system? Is it still largely based on how nutritionally dense foods are?

I found when I did it, with pretty decent success, what helped me the most was really eating not just less, but very healthily. I made sure to get the best whole grain breads I could find, ate a lot of veggies, etc., so I could get more food on the point system. I don't know how long you've been doing it, but I would say after the first week, my blood sugar adjusted and I actually felt better. For the mean time, I'd suggest doing what they recommend during pregnancy, and eat a lot of little meals/snacks, to keep more on an even keel. I hate that feeling. My sugar dropping is strongly tied to my vulnerability to anxiety attacks. eta

Good for you, sj. I hope the meds kick in quickly for you, too.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

sj, sounds like a well-deserved treat.

The living room is marginally tidy, I have a bra on (horrors!), and I'm awaiting the therapist. 3 minutes to spare. oy.

I get really mean/confused/upset easily when my blood sugar drops or I get too hot. I don't remember that happening before I got pregnant these last two times, but since then... man, stay out of my way and feed me protein fast. Weirdly, nothing else does it like protein does.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I really need and want to lose 30 lbs., but I'm not sure how I'm going to manage it. It's especially hard on days where I have any kind of evening plans--including my weekly choir practice and writers group--because that delays dinner, and it seems like I'm most vulnerable to the crashes between 3:00 and 8:00 p.m.

One of the joys of a low-carb diet is that your blood sugar pretty much stops fluctuating. At the very least, you could skip the cheap white things and have protien snacks.

Now tagless for your comfort.

DH and I both experience rapid drops in blood sugar. Once while taking a trip to Pittsburgh (planned so that we could arrive at dinner time), we hit a huge traffic jam on I70. While we stewed in the car we got hungrier and hungrier and eventually started snapping and then actually yelling at each other.

We finally pulled off the highway to get gas and call our hostess. DH went inside the gas station and came out with two diet cokes and two bags of potato chips. After the first chip we were all lovey-dovey, schmoopy sorry.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

What is it about physiology that makes this sugar/mood drop thing happen? I swear that I've never suffered from anything other than irritation at physical symptoms of hunger, so this is fascinating to me.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

What is it about physiology that makes this sugar/mood drop thing happen?

No idea, but it's not pretty. Z goes into a near-catatonic state if he goes too long between feedings. I, as mentioned before, go feral. Luckily, it doesn't take much more than a piece of chocolate to bring either of us back.
