Spike's Bitches 23: We've mastered the power of positive giving up.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
We went by his Mom's favorite pizza place in the East Bay and got some slices. (It's very authentic NYC style pizza by an ex-Brooklynite. It's hard to get the crust right on the west coast.)
Fabulous!
That was always my favorite part of outpatient surgeries. Mom and dad would take me out for whatever I wanted for lunch afterwards.
Mostly, I'm freaked out about being triggered and having flashbacks in class.
vw, this is exactly why I think you should just go ahead and pass on Deliverance. It's not terribly graphic, but I worry that what's there just might trigger a flashback.
vw, Robin's description of Deliverence is very apt. It gets to the root of sexual violence, the utter degradation of it, with terrible emotional power. I don't know if I've ever seen a character more thoroughly dehumanized in a film. It's upsetting. Though it makes the revenge-y bits later
very
satisfying. Though also disturbing in other ways.
vw,
1) A 94 is an awesome grade. It is literally excellent. It's not just "good" or "good enough".
Don't have unreasonable expectations of yourself.
2) Don't see that creepy ass film when you're still getting yourself all adjusted. That would be an--how did you put it--unproductive decision. Take the other film. Go other film! Choose other film.
Don't have unreasonable expectations of yourself.

Cindy, meet vw. ;)
vw, meet vw. She is lovely, intelligent, kind, accomplished, and learning new skills.
And she's good enough, kind enough, smart enough, and doggone, people like me.
I figured I might as well go whole-hog with the Stuart Smalley, while I was on a roll.
You can punch me anytime, now.
random tangent- I just got off the phone with my dad- he is so psyched! His local newspaper (the Hartford Courant) chose him and 64 other letter writers in 2004 and honored them, and the reception was last night. He was just so happy about it, and felt so validated and appreciated. Just the way he talked about the smallest detail.
I was so proud of him my heart burst a little bit.
My dad is totally a left wing letter writing crank, BTW. I am somewhat surprised that they honored him- don't they know that will only encourage him? Heh. Kidding, sort of. So, yay Dad, you rock!
vw, joining with everyone else. Deliverance is an excellent movie, but it can easily trigger bad memories in all sorts of directions.
Unfortunately, the only other Appalachian-type movie that comes to mind is The Deer Hunter, which can also be pretty disturbing. Unless you want to go with The Homecoming, which was the inspiration for The Waltons TV series.
vw, a 94 is a very good grade. an excellent one, in point of fact.
this lack of capital letters brought to you by the fact hitting the shift key hurts with these stupid wrist braces on.
