Sadly, I was only in the city for about 3 days, and they wouldn't be performing any of those nights anyway.
That's the flaw in the system. Feh.
Plus, it was a whole rigmarole where my mom accidentally bought tickets for the wrong date and we had to sit on the stairs instead of in actual seats anyway.
Hee! I've done that too-- I forget the circumstances but I remember the butt.
It didn't matter much. The Elphaba understudy was phenomenal, possibly better (at least with the singing, which is all I can compare) than Menzel, the Galinda was perfectly acceptable to great (though nobody could be as good as Chenowith in that role, I'm certain). Only the wizard was a real disappointment. And, hey, I met both Hil and DebetEsse about an hour before the show, so it was a great night anyway.
I can't imagine anyone doing that role as well as Chenoweth. She was just so perfect. I'M NOT GLOATING-- it's just one of the few performances I've ever seen where I felt that way. The character is such a weird mix of caracature and heart that it's got to be nearly impossible for mere mortals to perform.
I also live in fear of high school productions where they cast baby belters as Elphaba. Menzel has a true blue legit voice and it really matters for that character and those songs.

I know how you feel. I'm simply never going to be able to see a performance of
Thoroughly Modern Millie
again, ever, because Sutton Foster so owned that role that seeing someone else do it scares me. I can imagine Kristen C. might well be similar.
Erika has a new tag.
is itching to announce Betsy's new tag so she should post in here between now and the next time I check which may be, I don't know, days

Sighhhhh
Man, I love it when that happens.
I don't know. I just saw Wicked a couple of weeks ago. I thought the girl that played Glinda (Laura something...I'd have to look it up...sorry) was just amazing...so...
Calli! I just happened to get a second, (but just one) at work, and I wanted to tell you how lovely it was of you to come hang out with us and humor Mr.H's trying to corrupt you.
You picked the perfect time to go back to the hotel too, as things got a little nuts, and Mr. H and I needed to vent about work for a while away from the bar.
(It's taken me 10 minutes to type this since I didn't so much have the second I thought I did).

It doesn't even have to be
true
to be fun, you know? Just the sheer feeling that "no one else could do this" is so exciting.
It's like you guys are speaking a different language. What's this Wicked?
