Happy Birthday Betsy!
Is Runyon Canyon worth driving to? Are there like canyons worth looking at closer to West LA?
I like Runyon Canyon quite a bit. And it depends on what you are going for, whether or not it is replaceable.
There's actually quite a nice hike/park over Pacific Palisades which is hella closer to you, has a view of the ocean and is as cardio intense as Runyon. Can't remember the name but it's in a book somewhere in the house. Or on a map. You like we should go one day?
Also, happy passover to those who observe!
All the house talk depressed and scared me.
You like we should go one day?
I think we should -- I'm not sure I'm in it for the cardio as much as seeing the views and undeveloped spaces. The cardio can't hurt.
Well, except where it can, but that's the good sort of hurt, right?
ita, The Trail Runners Club has one of them listed: Temescal Canyon. But it's not the one I'm thinking of. I'm still digging.
Also, pick a day. I'm incredibly out of shape so am likely to be flattened.
Happy birthday, Betsy!
Happy Passover! (except to Nilly I say I hope you don't hate it too much.)
I CANNOT believe you people did not let JZ's tale of community service at the CIRCUS distract you from the ridiculous real estate talk! Damn, people.
Is there a trail walking club, Kat? Because I will be flat too.
Let me check my krav instructor training schedule (do these people think I'm obsessed? What's with that?) and get back to you.
OK, how long do I have to wait before I call the people who said they'd get back to me "first thing in the morning"?
Edit: OH, and another thing in case Nilly skims: I saw a new Batya Gur book in the bookstore the other day! YAY!
The numbers in the housing talk confused the hell out of me. All I know is that we didn't have $150K to buy this house eight years ago but we borrowed and bought it anyway. We're paying roughly the same as we would in rent, only we have a bigger place (not a third floor walk up) with three bedrooms instead of two, plus a fenced back yard.
And we get a LOT more back in taxes (even before we had the baby). We pay less than 6% interest. Yes, we'll end up paying more to the mortgage company than we paid for the house. But without it, it would have taken us 30 years to save enough to plunk down the entire amount in cash. We'll have the house completely paid off before Owen gets to high school (we have a 15 year mortgage).
Nothing anyone has posted could make me believe we made a bad decision or that the debt we owe for the house is "bad".
Is the gist of Gus' argument that if you can't pay cash for a house, you should be renting? 'Cause that's what I was taking away from it.
I don't run with the trail runners. That wasn't the purpose of the link. The only time I've done one of their runs (Mallibu Creek Park) I had my ass thoroughly kicked. I walk it instead.
It's just that they've written up some beautiful trails with mileage and their explanations are really good. Click on any of the trail runs and you'll see a brief explanation.
I'd think any of the stuff in the Santa Monica Mountains, even if it is far west like Malibu Creek Park is closer than trying to get to Hollywood for you.
