I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Dana: Ha! Wrong, and yet funny.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Dana, OMG that is quite possibly the funniest damned thing I've ever seen. Bwah. Hah.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

More help wanted from the hivemind:

My POV character is being slapped, hard, by someone bigger, stronger, and fully intent on dealing pain and humiliation. (The slap is just the opening round.) What does that feel like? What I've written is "he slapped her so hard she tasted blood and felt dizzy from the impact." Allowing for that being shitty rough draft writing, does that sound right?

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

The thing about people carrying guns for self protection is that some of them believe that just seeing a gun will scare off a prospective attacker. Not always so. And you end up with people who are either not prepared to actually fire the gun (REALLY bad if the gun gets taken away and used against them) or not properly trained to use them. I'd just as soon those people carry mace.

Yes, this.

I'm worried about a) those that want to kill and b) those that don't want to, but just might by mistake. The how (plastic knife, fist, car, gun) doesn't concern me.

Ah. It does to me. Not being able to kill someone with my pinky, the survival options do change along with the how. Guns, IME, left me feeling like I had far fewer choices.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

What I've written is "he slapped her so hard she tasted blood and felt dizzy from the impact." Allowing for that being shitty rough draft writing, does that sound right?

It does. You might also want to put something aboutit feeling like her eye or cheekbone felt like it was exploding.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Or maybe how her cheek continued to sting after the slap...

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Sounds about right, Susan.

Dana, OMG that is quite possibly the funniest damned thing I've ever seen. Bwah. Hah.

Ok, what am I missing?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Wrong, and yet funny.

So, so true.

txt msging w/ the boy today:

Me: So, the new Pope looks just like Palpatine.
Him: Wait, the Pope is Zell Miller?
Me: Nah, just an ex-Nazi and Grand Inquisitor.*
Him: Oh, well, then. That makes all the difference.

* Not actually trying to reopen that convo. Just reporting the txt snark.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Dana what am I missing on the link?

Susan -- backhand or front? Open or closed fist? You're more likely to get blood with the backhand, since the knuckles squeezing flesh against teeth encourages the whole blood stuff.

You may want to also consider the wrenching in the neck, a fiery sensation on the outside of the cheek as well as the shredded inside (especially if her mouth was open when he hit her). And it might prompt involuntary tears. Being hit in the face (especially near the nose) can do that.

Guns, IME, left me feeling like I had far fewer choices.

Don't forget knives. Dangerous shit. Really dangerous.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

everything makes me think of SNL today. The Zell Miller stuff on their Chris Matthews mock is FUNNY.
