Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh, sure. It would be nice not to be responsible for destroying the earth or whatever, but you know, shit happens.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Hi Raquel! Pretty baby! If you change your mind about keeping him, I'm sure you'll have no problems ditching the cutie.

Sometimes shit happens. Sometimes you're shat upon.

Sure, I'm stinky either way, but I do attach different values to each.

Socks are a running theme throughout the series. They are used as symbols of freedom, redemption and love.

Thanks for all the good wishes. In particular, thank you to Steph for your reassuring words about permanent damage being unlikely.

Helen was doing very well when I saw her last night. She was speaking clearly and not getting confused (which was happening a lot in the morning). Apparently she's doing even better this morning and has been moved out of the ICU.

I'm waiting for a call from my mother to get more news. She called early this morning, but I was in the shower.

I'm not exactly getting much work done, but I don't know if I should be there or not. My other sister just finished her term, so she's free to fill in when Mum needs to leave. I don't know.

I can't even.

For those concerned about that part of the religious right that want to impose a theocracy on the US

That's alarming stuff, tommy, but good to see in one place where one click fills people in on the history. The burning question is will it take 25 years to turn that momentum around, and if it does, what will the USA look like by that time?

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Oh, sure. It would be nice not to be responsible for destroying the earth or whatever, but you know, shit happens.

Ha!

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

what will the USA look like by that time?

On the bright side - maybe the telomere erosion will get us first.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

In particular, thank you to Steph for your reassuring words about permanent damage being unlikely.

You're very welcome, Ouise. I hope she keeps on improving.

That's good to hear, Ouise. It's so hard to know what to do, but would you feel better being there with your family? I mean, if you're not getting work done anyway, you might as well not be there...

I'm really not sure. I guess maybe I would feel better.

Part of the problem is that we're all kind of unsure about how to treat her. On the one hand we all want to gather around and coddle her, but on the other hand not only did she do this to herself, but her being the baby of the family seems to be part of the problem.

I think I'll wait until my mother calls me and I can see how things are going. I'll certainly be heading over when I leave work, and that may end up being mid-afternoon.
