In particular, thank you to Steph for your reassuring words about permanent damage being unlikely.
You're very welcome, Ouise. I hope she keeps on improving.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

Apparently she's doing even better this morning and has been moved out of the ICU.
That's good to hear, Ouise. It's so hard to know what to do, but would you feel better being there with your family? I mean, if you're not getting work done anyway, you might as well not be there...

I'm really not sure. I guess maybe I would feel better.
Part of the problem is that we're all kind of unsure about how to treat her. On the one hand we all want to gather around and coddle her, but on the other hand not only did she do this to herself, but her being the baby of the family seems to be part of the problem.
I think I'll wait until my mother calls me and I can see how things are going. I'll certainly be heading over when I leave work, and that may end up being mid-afternoon.
Ouise and Calli, best wishes to both your families.
I'm vibing hard for all your family, Ouise. I keep starting to add "especially her," and then thinking about how wrecked her parents must be, and then about how helpless everyone else must feel, and in the end there isn't any "especially" at all; it's just frightening and wrenching for all of you. So I'm vibing for all of you, especially everyone.
Did we know that Robert Reich (sp?) former Secretary of Labor, currently on TDS, is a little person?
He's about five foot even, I think. He ran for governor of Mass back in 2002 (didn't win the primary), and I saw him then. He's a prof at the Kennedy School of Government, or some similarly We Turn Out Petty Kisssingers In Ten-Packs school around here.
Hope everyone is planning on having a good day today. I know I am all for good days, and am due to have one.
Hey, if I want to buy some of those cutesy blank CDs, am I better off starting shopping at the Virgin store or at Circuit City?

Yeah. I think it would be wise to listen to or seek out the advice of the person who was/is treating her, and get recommendations for what would be best for her in the long run. At least that way you can feel like you're doing something.

Cutesy?
Yes, guidance would be good. One of her therapists is, I think, twisted around Helen's little finger (she seems to think my very hands-off mother is a sterotype Smother Mother), but the other one could be helpful.
Thanks again to everyone for the caring messages. I felt sort of hesitant about posting about this, but I'm really appreciating the support. Ok, I'll stop before I get mushy.
